Tail of the Dragon Meet: Sept 8-10

Updated on 9/6/06
Here are the basics: We will hold it September 8-10, 2006. It will begin on Friday and end on Sunday. The reason for beginning on Friday is that there would be less traffic, increasing the chances of making a clean run on the Dragon. There are other great roads in the area such as the Cherohala Skyway that could be driven in addition to the Dragon on Saturday.

Certainly, if some members are unable to attend on Friday, they would still be welcome to join us on Saturday. We would plan on having a couple of social gatherings for members to get acquainted with one another as well.

Also, the purchase of 2-way radios with multiple channels is highly recommended to keep a group of this size together on our Saturday big drive.

Updated Itinerary:

Friday 9/8
Lunch will be at Dragon Den's Grille at Deal Gap Motorcycle Resort. We ate lunch here both Saturday and Sunday and their chargrilled burgers were excellent. Also, it is right at the base of the Dragon, so all the cars and motorcycles taking off there really get you pumped.

The Friday dinner will be a plate dinner inside the Tapoco Lodge restaurant.
Friday Night Dinner @ 6:00pm
Choice of Catfish, Trout, or Chicken tenders
Hushpuppies
Fries
Slaw
Northern white beans
Pie
Soft Drink (alcohol extra)
$14.95 + 7% tax.
This is Tapoco's usual menu selection for the Friday night. You're welcome to get dinner elsewhere if you would like.

The rest of the day will be available for making runs on the Dragon, hanging out at the Lodge, exploring the area, or whatever you want to do.

Saturday 9/9
In the morning at 9:30 AM, we will meet at the bottom of Fontana Dam for photos and to leave for our group drive. We will go up the Dragon, travel to Tellico Plains, Tennessee, and have lunch at the Cascades Riverside Grille at the Bistro by the River. http://www.bistrobytheriver.com/cascades.html From there, we will drive the Cherohala Skyway back to the NC and return to Tapoco.

We will be meeting Saturday morning at 9:30 on the side of the river opposite the campground at the bottom of the dam.

Saturday night: Party!

Sunday 9/10
In the morning, we'll have breakfast and say our goodbyes. Then, everyone can do what they want.

I'd be interested if it was going to be a big meet. And if the dates were right. Also would be a little better if others from the south were going.

Sept. is also nopi time in the ATL. Do you know when the resort shuts down for the winter? Sept. is still prime time for bikes.
The two runs listed are great twistys, coming from a bikers point of view.
I am interested but will need to see the final date, and cheek my work load at that time.
Might want to think about the ones that might not make a turn though (Leagel stuff)!
Just some thing to think about...

If a person drives over their head on a public road and crashes... How can they hold anbody else liable?

How does Sept. 8-10 sound for the Dragon run? It's right between Labor Day and the NOPI Nationals.

Agreed. We are not trying to race each other or the clocks. This is about enjoying our cars. Their limits are high enough and the road is forgiving enough that you can push it a little and be relatively safe. I drove no faster than 40 mph (speed limit 30) while there. In the curves, I was usually doing in the 20s and it was fun. Although it is a twisty road, the turns did seem fairly consistent in their radius and easy to get a rhythm on. However, you do have to be focused and there are blind corners. (I took my shades off.) Also, any weekend in Sept. works for me.

If someone spills coffe on there lap..... how can they hold micky Ds liable????

Most Motorcycle rides have you sigin something, there is a reason for this.
It only takes one person to screw you!
Motorcycle clubs make you sigin forms too. I don't want to be a pain just don't want anyone to get screwed....In a bad way at least...

You're not being a pain at all. People in the US like to sue. Exactly what are in these forms you're talking about.

The forms just state that you ride (drive in this case) at your own risk. That the event/ride/Org. will not be held responsable for damages/injuries.
That is the basics of these type of forms. It might not be needed unless it gets to be a big event. Even some big rides (Trail of Tears) don't do a form just show up and ride. This is just something to think of.

If this gets alot of Georgia interest and I don't have to work. I would be willing to lead a group from ATL up to the event.

It sounds like something to consider. We would like to try to keep the event somewhat informal. etf helped planned the original Minis on the Dragon where about 35 cars showed up and everyone had a great time. If he wishes, I'll let him explain what it has become.

It's 5.5 hours away from me, more or less. I'll have to think about it, but it's not a bad idea.

I am in Ohio, 2 hours north of Cincy, and there is no way it should take you 5 hours. I get there in 6.5 hours, law enforcement permitting.
You can roll down with me if you want.
