is taillight tint illegal in nc?

what are the ways its legal? if it just covers the reverse light? id like to do everything except the reverse light but i feel like id take a bunch of shit for it from the po po. any experiences?

its illegal regardless but if its light enough and you dont piss the cops off they shouldnt really bother you. also if its just the white lights it might not be bad.
