Moving to NC
Hey guys I just got a job in Raleigh, NC. I am moving there from Arizona. I wanted to check with any local people about the weather there in the winter. I have 18's on my car with Federal 595 tires. I was wondering if these tires will be fine this winter or if stock tires would be better?
I'm not fully moving out there for a few months so I'm just taking what I can fit in my car. I'm debating if I should just put the stock tires back on. I have lived in AZ since I was in elementry school so I've never had to drive on ice or snow. Also if anyone has any suggestion on nice areas to live I would appreciate it. Thanks! Brandon |

I'm in Tennessee at roughly the same latitude as Raleigh, so as far as the winters go, you might expect a real mix--literally. Last year we had a few inches of snow in the lower elevations, and a few times there was a sleet/freezing rain mix.
Anything as soft as the summer tires wouldn't be good. My understanding is that in cold weather, the tire will get brittle. We did have several sub-zero (farenheit) nights here last year. We haven't had a good snow here in years. When it does snow, depend on NO ONE knowing how to drive in the snow/ice. Personally, I'll be sticking with the OEM all seasons and saying a little prayer each time I start the car. |

hey i live in chatham county, next next to wake county where raleigh is. nobody ever knows what the weather is going to be like down here. it hardly ever snows and if it does maybe an inch. but then we get those freaky years where we get about 20 inches. i personally wouldnt worry about going back to stock. im not anyway. if you are looking for a place then id look in chatham county. its only a 30min driveto raleigh and there are thousands of homes being put up here. and i do mean thousands.

We don't really get bad winter weather here any more. Maybe a little bit of sleet, or a dusting of snow (that doesn't stick, yet shuts down everything in town). I think you'll be fine. Be sure to look us up in the regional section when you get out here.

Yeah any advise on good places to live are appreciated. I have been considering just renting a room until the rest of the family can move out. I'll be in town late Sat 10/13. I was planning on looking at apts that Sunday. |
