parking garage story...
so the parking garage at my south austin office has a significant amount of pigeons. there really are certain spots where they tend to hand out that you don't want to park your car in. i got to work late yesterday and had to park in one of those spots...what is it that pigeons eat anyway?
ok, so that's not the story though. last week i'm leaving work late and i can see my car (one of only a couple left) all the way across the garage and i can tell that there is something on my trunk lid. i'm like WTF...who would just leave something sitting on my brand new car? as i get closer i can see that it's a pigeon so i'm shooing it away (still 35yrds away from my car), but it doesn't move. then i realize that it's just lying there...dead! at first i thought it was the classic bird sees it's reflection in the glass and flies into it, but you could see where it "landed" on one side of my trunk and slid to rest on the other side. it had never occured to me that a bird could just be flying through the air and suddenly pass away and become a projectile of sorts. my next thought is the bird flu!!...that's when i looked up and noticed the huge heat exhaust fan in the ceiling above me. that explained everything. as i looked around the empty garage you could definitely see that there was way less bird poop in the spots near the exhaust fans so apparently most of the birds know to stay away from them. no damage was done to the car and i'm pretty sure that was a 1 in a million fluke so i make sure to always park near those fans if i can and my car has stayed much cleaner since.
