Any interest in an Outer Banks meet for 2009?

I'm thinking about getting an Outer Banks meet together for possibly May 15-16. It would probably be a Friday and Saturday event with a big cruise on Saturday (like at the Dragon meet but no good curves).

This would be the Saturday loop. We'd go inland down to Swan Quarter and take the ferry to Ocracoke. Then, we'd head up the OBX stopping for lunch and at the Cape Hatteras lighthouse.

On Friday, we would probably go to Jockey's Ridge, the highest sand dune on the East Coast:

Wright Brothers Memorial

Maybe the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island
North Carolina Aquarium at Roanoke Island

All of these attractions are in close proximity to one another.

The ferry from Swan Quarter to Ocracoke is about 2-1/2 hrs. There's also about a 30 minute ferry between Ocracoke Island and Hatteras Islands.

I stayed at a cottage in Nag's Head a few yrs back. We might could stay at a couple of them.

Ah ha, so that's the route. Good idea to steer clear of VA Beach altogether. Really isn't a good cruise destination anyway.

Well, that's the Saturday route and I'm thinking about some things for Friday but, yeah, I changed my mind on Va Beach. I decided to just have everyone meet at the OBX. VA Beach was just going to be a meeting point.

Let me just add that this will probably be a one-time thing and it's not going to be a big deal like the Dragon meet. It's just a chance to hang out with other members and check out a pretty neat place.

how far away is this from Wilmington, NC??? National Speed Shop is in Wilmington and would be a nice pitstop for Dyno session, lol.

It's about 5 hrs from Nags Head. It's about 6 hrs from Hatteras which is closer to Wilmington but the shortest route takes you on 2 ferries with one being 2 hrs long.

I think the northern beach towns have the most reasonable room rates.
