Exhaust and Cops = Problems?

I've been reading on other forums (mostly Montrealracing) that a lot of people are having trouble with aftermarket exhausts and cops in Montreal.
I'm quite sure everyone is fed up with sh*tbuckets rolling with exhausts so large you could stick your fist in. The noise from those is indeed irritable...and it has created a stereotype...

Did any of you guys get stopped because your car was too loud?

Personally, since I have my SI, I've hit quite high rpm's in front of cops (to see if they would stop me for "loud exhaust") and they didn't go after me or anything (I'm all stock right now)... I'm thinking it's because it's a new and good looking car, they think "oh, it's one of those newer performance cars, it's OK".

I don't know what to think...I want to get a Vibrant exhaust. It looks quite "stock" but with an intake and a header, I'm afraid I will become a cop-magnet because of the noise.

Oh, one more thing, is our stock exhaust (for the SI) a "free flowing" exhaust? And anyone have any idea about the thing they stick into your exhaust to see if it's a free flow?

In the "Code de la Securite Routiere" it says:
Quote:
94. Aucun élément du système d'échappement ne doit être remplacé, modifié ou enlevé de manière à rendre le système plus bruyant que celui installé lors de la fabrication du véhicule routier par le fabricant.

D. 1483-98, a. 94.
Of course, this can be interpreted in many ways, but if the exhaust is necessary to accommodate another mod, such as a turbo or supercharger or if it's there for the purpose of increasing performance and not to make the car louder...what then?

All right, thanks for the input guys. It's pretty much what I thought, most cops are smart and will stop mostly just the older or crappier cars with fart cannons.

And for the guy who got stopped for his stock exhaust...it would really make my day having to argue with the cop and laughing at him, unless I had something else to do .
