About to buy first DSLR

ive been in the market for a good cheap DSLR for a while now and i think ive found the one. a Canon D30. ive done my research and i think its safe to say that despite its 3.3mp and 1.8in LCD screen that its worth the money. back during its debut in 2000 it was the shit and was wroth well over 1g. but now its literally dirt cheap.

CHECK POST #4 FOR IN-DEPTH REVIEW

so my question is:

would this be worth it spending some money on?

and is so, what sort of lens/flashes should i looks into?

i am just a casual photographer but i look to expand in skill later down the road.

any help will be much appreciated

How much can you get one for (what is dirt cheap)? Price would be my biggest deciding factor.

The megapixels are lower (not a huge issue unless you want to enlarge your pictures, or if you want to do a lot of cropping), but the biggest thing is that newer cameras will have better image processing, faster and more acurate autofocus, better noise reduction, etc.

However, I'm sure that will still take great pictues. If you can get a great deal on it then it might be a good camera to start with.

on ebay you can find a body for about $100. and since it has a EF lens mount you can find lenses fairly easily. also, since the pictures wont take up so much memory due to the camera being 3.3mp, a 1gb CF card would be plenty.

i plan to spend about $200 for the body, lens(es), Cf card, batteries, and maybe the flash.

ive also found a very in-depth review of the canon D30 here.

I wanna get a DSLR now that I played with one in Best Buy. Granted, it was like $2300 (a D80), but it was fun as hell snapping pictures at lightning speed and having every single one look amazing. I spend so much time trying to get a good pic in my 6 MP camera and they always look fuzzy and crappy imo

Unfortunately, good lenses are generally where the big money come in when it comes to DSLR.

Do you wan't/need zoom? If you are willing to move around to get the right shot (rather than using zoom) you could get a 50mm f/1.8. It is a great lens. It is a fixed focal length, but it is super sharp and doesn't have any bad traits (like bad vignetting, distortion, etc.). It is pretty cheap (around $100 I think). It doesn't zoom, and won't do true macro, but it will take great shots to get you started.

I've actually took some great pictures with that lens. I don't think it sucks at all. Here's a picture I used with that lens.

I got a nikon d40 and I love it. I'm no good at taking pictures but the pictures turn out great. It's not that expensive... $400 with a kit lense. I recommend that if your just starting out like me.

Have you looked into a advanced point and shoot?

Look at the Canon S5 IS it's the closest to a DSLR

The D40 is a great camera. I has looking into that when I was shopping around for a DSLR. But what drove me away was that we're limited to the amount of lens we could use.

Nifty-Fifty is pretty much the "cheap" of the excellent lenses, and it costs about the same as a D30 body.

I'd personally just go for an XT, as their reasonably cheap, with about the same features as the D30. And it's new.

Then spend cash-dough on the lenses. Play with the kit lens a bit too, it's actually a good lens, if you have a good copy.

Look for a 300D or a 10D on ebay used. Probably get one for 200ish and its 6.3mp and better image processor me thinks.

Go with the 10D instead of the 300D.

If you're not gonna be blowing up pictures anything around 4mp is good enough.

if you look here there's some good deals.

I think a 20D would be a better deal for the $$. IDK how good of a shot a 3mp camera will get you. I think for 500 you can get a much better setup.. and trust me 500 is nothing. Lol.

I'm looking to buy a DSLR as well and came across this site.
Seems to have some really good deals. Wanted to get some opinions on which package looks to be the best deal.

Don't do it. Terrible reseller ratings. Just pay a bit more and go through B&H or Adorama.
