Check out the Canon S3 IS, it's the "last year" model of the new S5 that is basically the same with a few minor differences. It take good video in good light, low light generates static like image. The camera side is near entry level professional, it has alot of options.

I owned the S2 IS, my friend has the S3 IS and its just as good. Reason I say to get the S3 is the price. Save a $100 or so by going with an older model. Consumer Reports gives it top ratings vs other "super zooms"

Are you new to photography? An expensive camera doesn't promise you'll get great pictures.

That being said and without going into a TON of detail, I prefer Canon or Nikon.

i got a canon sd850 is and it takes really nice vids for a pns camera. It doesnt have as many features as the higher up pre slr camera but it does take pretty nice pix as well. I took a short vid in a bar on my friends bday and it came out really clear and good sound. I was surprised. As far as good pictures thats all a matter of opinion. I think it takes great pix for what it is and how much it cost.

I say S3 IS. I have one. Awesome camera with lots of little things that can help even amateur "serious" photography. The only reason I'd consider the S5 IS is the hot shoe mount. But that's not QUITE enough to persuade me to pick the S5 over the S3. S3 is 90% of the frills, at 60% of the price.

That said, I've held the new G9(?) and that thing is AWESOME. It's almost like a digital rangefinder with very good picture quality.
