Worth getting this lens?

I would like to get another lense w/ more of an available zoom... but I dont know if this one is worth getting. Its the only one that circuitcity has available in store right now (near me). I suppose i could go to a camera store and find one... but i have a circuitcity card to use.... so i'd prefer to grab one fromt here if possible.

Buy the Canon 75-300mm Telephoto EF Zoom Lens f/4.0-f/32 and other Digital camera lenses & filters at circuitcity.com

If the lens isnt worth it ... ill probably find a camera shop nearby that has this lens in stock

Buy the Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS Telephoto Zoom Lens f/4-5.6 and other Digital camera lenses & filters at circuitcity.com

thanks!

I don't know much about the optical quality of each but the extra 50mm at the long end won't matter much so might as well get the one with the IS.

i really hope that f/32 on the long end of the 75-300 is a typo... that's a really dark lens.
which camera do you have? i dont think the ef-s will fit on a full frame camera.
i dont know about the image quality on both, but the IS one looks like it has a better build quality. plus, the IS should be more than helpful when using the long end of the lens.
don't plan on using the 75-300 without a good amount of light.

u can get those lenses online for a lot less.
check PriceGrabber.com - Comparison Shopping Beyond Compare

The 75-300 is a f/4-5.6 lens, 32 is the minimum f/stop the lens can achieve.

i shoot with canon and i have used that 75-300 lens on my xt and on a 40D. its a very basic and entry level tele lens. having said that, it is a good lens to start with and learn the limitations in terms of speed and low light capability. i was not too happy with the results and got the tamron 70-300 instead....similar lens but better results for me on the same bodies i mentioned.

the 55-250 has has basically the same quality glass as the first one but you will definitely benefit from the IS feature hands down. infact...due to the IS feature, the two are not even comparable imo.

bottom line...go with the IS.

yes go ahead with it but as i said before....be aware of the limitations of the lens. you should be able to shoot good quality pics if you compose it right during sunlight but forget it once there is heavy overcast or when its close to sunset time. the IS would definitely help but only a couple of stops.

i used the tamron for over a year before i bought the 70-200 f4 is.

This picture was taken of my nephew indoors (pretty bright at the time though) with the 75/300 Canon Lens with my rebel XTi from about 15 feet away. I'd say it's pretty clear. Not bad considering I picked it up for about $150 at Circuit City on sale.

(he had just finished eating hence the dirty face. )

not bad in my opinion...

i've got the 55-250mm. got it as a package deal from best buy with the 18-55 because they ran out of the 75-300mm.

i have to say i like it whenever it gets used, which is not often, because i'm usually close to what i'm taking a picture of so i use the 18-55mm more.
