What kind of pics do you take. The basic lens is good to start with but you will want something else to fine tune to the pics you like to take. My 20D with the basic lens is fine for most of the shots I take but I want a zoom lens for sports, and would like a wide angle for the hell of it (to play with).

Most of the pics in this TOTD photo group were taken with the basic lens if that helps.

If it were me i would get the second package. 2GB CF card with it. one less thing to get.
but you need to do what is best for you. I think the price is good because when I got mine it was $1400. and only a 8.2 MP...LOL. But that was a long time ago. looks like you are doing your homework on it just fine. just shop a few places to be sure its a good price.

The lens isn't the best, but it's fine enough for occasional use. The thing is, if you want a "deal" on a lens, it's still essentially "you get what you pay for", so the lenses won't be the best. But if you need the dSLR now, then it will do.

As far as where to buy it from, also check out BHPhoto.com and Adorama.com.

The only thing I don't like about mine is that indoor pics are dark. I don't know about the XTI though.
