Calling all Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8 Owners!

I think I would really like to add this lens to my collection. I thought found one on craigslist locally for $450, After contacting the seller. It turns out it is already sold, he just never took down the listing...

My question is have you tried this lens out on a D50? I know the D70 sensor creates/ causes chromatic aboration with this combo... I can snag one from bestbuy or circuit city... for like 830.00 + tax and shipping. I can get $1000.00 on gift cards to either store. But I would hate to burn it all on one lens. And have it be a turd on my current camera body.

I was going to hold out to get a D300... but I think a SB-800 and some new glass will win out.

current setup is D50, nikkor 50 f/1.8, nikkor 18-55 "kit", nikkor 70-300G, nikkor 35-70 /f3.3.

Also do you guys have any pics with a D50 & 10.55 fisheye combo?

Thanks in advance.

Lou

Haha thanks you two... that would be great. except neither place would accept my best buy or circuit city gift cards. I can get $1100.00 for either store.

So between the gift cards and cash I have $1670.00. So, so close to a d300 body... but new glass and a sb800... Arrrrrrrggggggggggggggghhhhhh I cant decide!!!

What would Ron Jermey do?

New glass + flash > body, in most cases.

I swear that the thing spoke to me in Best Buy...

IT said "Hey Lou, how's it going"?

Haha I started to get the same way so now I barely use that site anymore.

I'd say go with new glass and sb-800. If you get the D300, yeah you'll have a nicer body but you'll still be as limited as you were before with whatever glass you currently have. A D40 with a 24-70 f/2.8 will more turn out better pics than a D300 with a 18-55 f/3.5-5.6

arisen, true, true... but have any of you guys shot the 10.5mm with D50 body? any weird CA or other combo defects. I know it has issues on the D70 sensor. Just wondering before I throw down a bunch of cash for the lens.

I haven't used it, but since you're buying it in a store, especially one like BB or CC, they have a 30 day return policy on their lenses so if it doesn't work out you could always bring it back. Hell even the Ritz cameras out here have a 30 day policy.

You might have a better time getting comments about a D50 and the 10.5 combo on Nikon Café though. The only person on here who I know had the 10.5 and used it on a D50 was Type X. I think he still lurks around here a bit though not avidly posting. But all the pictures I saw with it looked great so I'm guessing if there were any problems they were not easily seen.
