Taking video (newbie-help)

Just got a Canon S3. I shot some video of drag racing that I tried to put on youtube. The video is about 200 mb and only 100 mb is allowed on youtube. I shot it in .avi (apparentely). Do I need to shoot video in a different mode to take up less space? What mode? Can I convert my .avi video? I'm gonna lose alot of quality huh?

I wonder if my computer will burn a DVD. I know it will play dvd's and burn cd's. Can anyone recommend a program for burning a dvd from my camera?

You can split your video or trim it down. If you have a Windows machine, you might be able to edit it with Windows Movie Maker. You can easily Google for video splitter software. Good luck.

Pic of Jason Line at the scales. I just wanted to post a pic, haha...nothing special. Day was shortened by rain, only saw 1st round of Top Fuel, major bummer.

You may be able to split it using VirtualDub.

You could also try uploading at video.google.com without editing the file. Since your file is over 100 MB, you'll need to download Google's uploading software to upload your video.

um, what is splitting exactly....trimming or cutting parts out basically? I don't really want to cut anything out, I was more looking to lose a little video quality to get the filesize down if that's possible.
I don't really understand why my video is only 1:10 and takes up 200mb while there are videos on youtube much longer but less than 100mb. The quality is not as good as mine though.

Splitting is basically breaking up your 200 mb file into several manageable chunks of video.

But since you don't want to break up your file, the other way is to resample the video by either resizing the video (i.e. from 640X480 pixels to 320X240 pixels) or adjusting the frame rate (i.e. from 60 frames per second to 30 FPS). This can be done, but you'll need a more sophisticated piece of video editing software. You can see if you can find some freeware from CNet's download.com or from other software download sites like tucows.com.

Like I said before, you can upload to Google Video. You can upload files that are larger than 100MB, but you'll need to download their uploading software to do so.
