Wide-angle is pretty good for cars.

Nature - depends. Macro for close-ups of flowers/insects. Super telephoto for birds.

Any recommendations for good (and reasonably-priced) wide-angle lens?

Sigma 10-20mm is a wonderful wide angle lens. A true wide angle. It gives you 16-32mm on a 1.6x crop sensor. It's not cheap though.

I said "reasonably-priced" didn't I?

Any sample shots with that Sigma 10-20mm?

I'd say go for a cheap, fast 50mm prime. Nikon makes a couple of them...it just depends on how much you want to spend. The Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D AF lens is about $120. You'll like the depth of field you'll be able to get that you couldn't do with your kit lens. You'll also be able to take shots in low light, hand-held, without flash.

But it's a prime lens, you'll need to use your feet as zoom. It's also a bit long if you like to take nice landscape shots, but hey, that's what photo stitching programs are for.

articsilber323-
do this but replace 50mm with 28mm. its a bit more costly, but you will want it for nature shots. also, get a tripod. very much needed for nature shots.

Yikes! More costly, indeed. But a good recommendation.

1. you can spend more time seting up the shot when the camera is held in one place. lighting, exposure etc.
2. your more likley to take more frames of the same scene.
3. its easier to concentrate of framing, composition. VERY helpful for taking architectural shots.
4. HDR merge.
5. you can release shutter without looking through the viewfinder. VERY helpful when taking portaits.
6. image quality. a rule of thumb is the reciprocal of the focal length for the minimum hand held shutter speed. however, if you want to crop and print big you need a tripod. furthermore lenses generally have a sweet spot of aperture sharpness thats not always as large as youd like it to be. ISO is a factor in quality, you want ISO as small as possible, all this can lead to slow shutter speeds, even in broad daylight.

So I'm a little torn between a 24-105mm IS lens and a 28-135mm IS Lens and a 28-200mm lens
I'd really love to own a L series, but I dont think I'd ever really need a L series. I've never tried an IS lens, could someone tell me their thoughts? Thanks.

I have a 100-300mm 5.6L without IS, so I want to try a lens with IS too. It's extremely difficult to shoot without IS on full zoom with my lens. You pretty much need a tripod to get a good, sharp shot.

Thats to be expected, IS or no IS. IS will let you have a faster shutter speed.. but cant gurantee you a crisp shot :].

Depends on what wide angle lenses you have. But I'd probably go for a wider lens than a longer lens. That 24-105mm IS sounds good, but plenty expensive.

Next best I'd say is the 28-135mm. Save yourself the cash and use it towards a new set of tires.

The IS will definitely help stabilize the lens. It won't totally eliminate camera shake, but you'll definitely notice the difference between a handheld shot with not IS and a handheld shot with IS. In all honesty, all IS is useful for is so that you don't have to set up a tripod every time you take a casual shot.
