My friend bought the e500 and brought it over the other day and I really didn't like it. It looked nice and had a lot of features but it felt really slow, the lens was not smooth when zooming in and out. Plus the system is so new there is so much more choice when you want to add lenses and flashes for Canon and Nikon.
BTW I shoot with the 30d. |

the olympus does come with the extra lens, but in general the kit lens that the rebels come with is a great all around lens, and then you can determine what second lens would best suit your shooting style.
Personally i like the quality of the Canon lenses, though having little experience with Olympus ones. And as others have said there is a wider canon lens selection out there. |

I tried it and it's really crappy. Good screen size & resolution, on-board image stability, and good ergonomics. But otherwise, it's a really crappy camera... hard to customize your settings (a lot of sub-menus), shutter is really loud and mechanical, and doesn't feel comfortable in the hand. At that price range, I'd definitely go for a Canon or Nikon. |

All I have to say is.
It would be wise, for sake of future-proofing your investment, to buy into either canon or nikon. while Olympus/ Pentax/ etc.. make very good cameras. I just don't know how well they will be able to keep up with the big boys ( Canon & Nikon ) in the future. So, I have nothing against them at all. I just have my own opinions on them. |
