How much better? It really depends on what you plan to use it for. The only real problem with the D80 is that it overcompensates the exposure meter a bit.

I find the exposure meter to be accurate enough. It all depends on the lens you have IMO. Then again, its not hard to press a button and role a switch if you want to reduce the EV. :)

D200 is better, but unless your doing professional shots, a D80 will be more than enough. And then it matters with the photographer, not the camera.

Actually its funny you should mention the exposure values 8thgen, my mom thinks I have a great sense of the values.

Actually just to add, a couple of my shots do come over saturated. A quick adjustment on the cam or in photoshop fixes it though.

For how much more expensive the D200 is than the D80, I dont feel its worth it unless you do some SERIOUS photography.

plus its a little more complex to learn and you'll prob waste most of the features

Actually now that I'm a month in I'm finally shooting in manual regularly.....hehe I guess I'm wasting the cam too! But I flip to auto or portrait when I can't get metrics right fast enough and the person is getting impatient (ie for a quick shot)
