Yes, because my digital rebel xt is teh awesomeness.

and the xti is improved with a higher megapixel rating, so it's even better now.

weren't you/didn't you buy the sony?

won a sony like child's on ebay... dscr1 i think it was ... but the seller didn't accept paypal ... so i was screwed and decided not to get it anymore... she was ok that i didn't want to send a bank transfer to europe so she just relisted.

so now i've been hunting ...
was going to get the sony alpha 100k dslr but then i saw the reviews ... everyone had a problem with night shots and above ISO 400 ... too much noise and i like taking night shots so that won't be good.

so i'm looking at the digital rebel xti now.

I am a nikon d80 fan. It takes SD cards just like our navi with the adapter. My laptop has a built in SD card slot. I also have a thumb drive adapter that takes SD cards and uses it as the memory. The Nikon d80 has gotten great reviews. I have had several Nikons and am very happy with them.

go for the canon, i have the original rebel and love it. Great camera and its never let me down, battery lasts forever (i dont like using the flash). the only way to get real improvement over a point and shoot camera is to upgrade the optics, and you cant do that without going SLR. That does mean you have to shoot through the viewfinder. 3.2 mega pixels is more than enough for any normal person, it makes good quality 4x6 prints and good screen images, if you want to make a wall size poster of your car then you need 6-8+ mp range

yeah.. nice,, I want to be really nice :[,, tea_tea

Anyways,, From what I've heard from cnet.. they put the d80 above the cannon although I am a cannon fanboy myself.. I would go for the d80..

In this situation though.. I think you can really go for an older version.. because who honestly needs 10mp? out of us anyways... child maybe.. and thats a maybe :]

DO NOT GET THE SONY!!!

lol... i asked my photojournalist cousin about it, and he said it's useless. stick to Canon. Sony hooked up with Konica-Minolta to develop the Alpha dSLR. halfway through the development, Konica sold all the technology to Sony and left them to fend for theirselves. the only good thing about the Alpha is the built-in image stabilization. Konica lens support is limited compared to Canon, so i would'nt go with it. and besides, the XT or XTi are both cheaper than the Alpha!!!

I've been eyeing an XTi as well. Still too much money for my camera budget. But pictures come out awesome. Maybe I'll wait until next year and see if they drop the price a little. The lenses are going to cost you mucho $$$.

If you have shaky hands, then yes, image stablization will help a bunch. You'll probably use a tripod for those special shots when using an SLR camera, anyway, so I.S. isn't really necessary.

I'll disagree on the Sony and Bose guidelines.

Sony is a worldwide leader in electronics, but if it doesn't say "Made in Japan" on it, it's worthless. Their products that are made outside of Japan have been sub-par in my experience. They always need to get fixed after a few years and you pay a premium for their products.

Bose is a good product and do an excellent job of sound processing at the receiver level. Their speakers are of poor quality. Open up a speaker and you'll be appalled at the quality of their speaker components for the amount of money that you pay for them.
