Northern Ontarians- where are your ballasts?
Hey everyone,
Happy spring season! I'm putting in some HID's sometime soon and I'm wondering where some of you have successfully installed the ballasts for your HIDs and if they are in difference places than 'standard' to accomodate the lovely weather we get up here. Sudbury is particularly bad for salt and that magnesium chloride crap they use as a pre-storm spray on the roads here in the winter. I'm just worried about investing in a kit just to have a ballast blow once winter starts. If you've had no problems and are also a northerner I'd love to know exactly where you placed your ballasts- pics are also appreciated ![]() Thanks for any input Happy and safe driving this summer!

Usually the wiring that comes with the kit are standard length (about 2 or 3 feet max), so you don't have much room to be creative with it. It's usually in the standard mount position on the front above the fan.

Yeah, I work for an aftermarket shop and we got a new brand in called BrightSource. I'm being the guinea pig and trying them out in my 06 EX. Always wanted them so I figured why not give these a shot.
But that being said, Sudbury and northern ontario in general has some pretty hard weather conditions in the winter and I am VERY WEARY about installing the ballasts somewhere along the wheel well area. Noooot happening. Not with the crap they spray our roads with here. I'll be sure to take some pics with where I end up installing everything and get them up here. I'll keep you guys posted on how they last and all that jazz. Any suggestions/areas known to avoid would be appreciated! |

HIDs have been installed for over a month now with no problems- we even had a huge snowfall and they lasted through all of the water/salt/crap that came with that so I'm super happy. I'll post some pics soon to show you guys where I decided to ground mine. Cheers!
