Warning to ALL drivers in NJ!!!

I have received this memo from a good source that I know. This has been confirmed as an occurence that happens every year around this time in NJ!!!
Some of you in NJ know this already and some of you dont. Either way, Im sending this out so all you NJ drivers can be alerted!! It happened to me, don't let it happen to you!!!

Speeding in NJ

Starting today, New Jersey will launch a 30 day speeding ticket frenzy.
The state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated in speeding
tickets. 1 million will go to pay state troopers' overtime. There will
be 50 state troopers on duty at all times patrolling the 9 main
intersections and highways. They are the following:

> I-295 north and south
> 1-95 (Jersey Turnpike) north and south
> 1-80 east and west
> I-287 north and south
> I-78 east and west
> 1-195 east and west
> 1-280 east and west
> Rt. 130 north and south
> ; Garden State Parkway north and south

5 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every state trooper is
supposed to pull a car over and w rite a ticket every 10 to 20 minutes.
They have issued 30 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and are
bringing in all of their part timers on full time. If you work in NJ,
NY, DE or CT you will probably take one of these highways. It's up to
you how fast you are going when t hey clock you.

101.5 FM confirmed all of this. So be safe and don't forget speeding
tickets are on you.

Driving Ticket fine increase in NJ:

Starting on August 15th, the price of a ticket for violation of NJ
Law39:3-29 (failure to show your driver's license, registration, or
insurance card at the time you are stopped) is going from $44.00 to
$173.00. Please make sure your vehicles have the proper documents in
them. If you jump in the car to run to the store and forget your wallet
with your license in it and you are stopped.... Oh well... you just
spent $173. And the fine for not having all three documents is $519!!!

Forward to people in NJ, and let them know of this change. And be
careful, the fine for hand held cell phone use while driving will be go
ing up to $180.00.

Not cool. I usually go 5-10 over the speed limit. Not sure if I should be now.

I was just on the Turnpike this last weekend...I don't live there now but I did notice there were a lot more Troopers on the turnpike than when I used to live in NJ. Seemed there were at least a couple in between each exit.

I've gotten pulled over 6 or 7 times but never gotten a ticket *knock on wood*

Thanks for the heads up, Mo. I'll definitely slow down for the next month or so.

Louisville just got this EXACT same warning. It's not true. It's been debunked several times.

But, it's always nice to be careful and drive safely. Don't speed. Etc.

This on actually is true. On bluecrab.info one of the mods is a state trooper for NJ. He has confirmed this.

Eh. Still don't believe it. I'm telling you, word for word, this was the same thing I saw a month ago. (Aside from the NJ-specifics...)

Here's what was done about this e-mail in Louisville.

Dear Neighborhood Leaders,

Some of you may have received an email this week warning of a speeding
crackdown by Louisville Metro Police. This bogus email claims that 50
LMPD officers will be on round-the-clock speeding ticket duty in hopes
of raising $9 million for the city. The email also alleges the city has
purchased 30 new Ford Crown Victorias just for this purpose.

This email isn't true. Here are the real facts:

1. There's no mandated speeding ticket crackdown in February, or at any
other time.

2. We have purchased 150 Crown Victorias to replace older models
throughout the year, which is our standard practice. None have been or
will be purchased solely for a speeding detail.

3. Every speeding ticket fine includes a $20 fee that is returned
to local governments. But we don't get all of that $20 back for each
ticket written in Jefferson County. It's redistributed throughout the
state based on the following formula:

*30% distributed equally to all governments with police
departments

*50% distributed to police departments based on number of
certified officers

*20% distributed equally to jurisdictions that transfer
prisoners between jails

Even if we got the entire $20 back into LMPD's budget alone (which you
can see, we clearly don't get anywhere close to that), we'd have to
write 450,000 tickets in month to reach that magical $9 million mark.
So, we'd just have to ticket over half of the county's population in 30
days.

4. Speeding ticket money doesn't go to pay overtime for LMPD.

5. It takes longer than 10 minutes to process a speeding ticket
charge. Officers have to check for warrants, proper equipment,
licensing, etc. It just can't be done in 10 minutes flat.

6. LMPD does not employ any "part time" traffic officers or any
"part time" officers period.

The one truth in this fake email warning is that it's a good idea to
drive the speed limit. That's good advice no matter what day of the
year!

And don't flash your headlights when you see someone who has forgotten to turn them on. Its a gang member initiation and they will kill you...

Seriously, these emails float around the internet continuously, resurfacing time to time, place to place.

I'm just relaying the message...... that's all!

If you guys dont live in NJ and see for yourself how it is, then you have no leverage or reasoning to say that it is "not true, or a "hoax" or a "urban legend" just because that's the case in your state!
Like CameronJr9 said, if it causes all of us to be more responsible and alert on the roads, then why not take the precaution, just in case!!??

I don't think anyone is doubting a police presence in NJ. In fact, the article on Snopes says in March of 2005 there was an influx of police hiring. I'm simply saying the e-mail, as is, is false. It's been around since May 2005. The same e-mail. It wasn't true then, and it's not true now.

So, like mohouse and I have both said, just drive safe and don't worry about it.
