DB Limit In NY State?!

Hey guys... I live in Syracuse and if all goes well with me getting my new job then in the near future this spring/summer I'm going to be buying an Si. I was just wondering if any one knew what the decibal limit of an exhaust system is here in NY State? I tried researching it but couldn't really find anything.

There are 3 different exhausts in which I am trying to choose from if I get the Si.

-Skunk2 Mega Power 60MM
-DC Sports Cat Back
-Vibrant Performance Cat Back

Each of these have a different sound to them. I love the Skunk2's sound but everyone says its waaaay too loud in person and from some clips it seems like it. I like the way the Vibrant sounds in clips too but in a way I like the whole "fart can"/canister look as long as it fits right.

So if any of you have these exhausts or know what the decibal limit here in NY is, please help me out or post anything. Thanks, much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure 95 db is the law in NY...

here's a couple links of my car with the Skunk2 70mm cat back. no tickets yet either...

Exhaust Tones. Vids/sound clips.

Yeah I've watched your videos numerous times lol (love the sound), I've been around the forums for a while now, just don't post a whole lot b/c I don't own an Si yet.

The Skunk2 sounds the best out of all of the exhausts I've heard so far on the Si. But the 70MM seems EXTREMELY loud!!! I like the 60MM but I'm not sure if thats still too loud, I hear it is but I dunno. Also I'm worried about driving to work 5 days out of the week on the highway about 20 mins. there and then 20 mins. back.

Let me give you a heads up, I dont agree with this by any means but, in NY state the law is worded in a way that any modified exhaust is illegal. So any aftermarket performance exhaust falls under this category. So if an officer wants to write you, even if your DB level is under the legal limit he can still hit you with it.

WTF?! That's bull shit... NY State sucks for everything! Banned fourwheelers up near my camp so now I can't go riding anymore, but yet the horses can still go on trails and tear them up. Seriously, the state just keeps pissing me off.

Sound limit

I would be careful around Syracuse. They seem to like to give out the tickets up there. As you may or may not know, NY forces your insurance to go up for a pre-determined number of years when you get tickets. When you reach a certain point, they also jack up the cost of renewing your license. I read in the paper a guy found out when it cost him $450 to renew. I live down in Ithaca and nobody seems too concerned about most of those rules. I will post the limit as soon as I drive by my local "sound limit sign". I drive by it daily but never really paid attention.

Cuse cops aren't too bad but the Dewitt cops are tough.
Just go to Thompson Rd by the Dunkin Donuts on a Friday or Sat Night.
Especially during the Syracuse Nationals... HAHA !! all the muscle cars doing burn outs and they pull over the Imports: laughing:

It's pretty funny because I know exactly what ur talking about. It's horrible, they can't even let people just meet up and show off their cars and hang out. No, they have to be right up everyone's ass writing tickets for anything and everything.

Kinda worries me too b/c I work for Time Warner and if I get an Si and a loud exhaust on it, I'm going to have to drive by there on my way home on Fri. nights. Now it's tough though because my girlfriend is trying to talk me into getting a different car b/c the Si is kinda expensive (I want it with the HFP lip kit and rims) and I'm only going to be 20 this June but I dunno.. I want one so bad and if I have too I will just get a base Si.
