First NY Speeding ticket

so guys i got my first speeding ticket today, which sucks. I was driving around this nice area w/ my bro looking at these huge houses and we come a curve were a huge truck is stuck so i turn around and go back, accelerating quickly to 'make up' for lost time. Now i'm in my mothers 2005 mustang gt, first off i love the way this thing sounds in the higher rpms, so i push her and she's an auto so i can't control how fast she is when in the high rmps like a stick. Also in this car something about the way the widshield is and the speedometer u really can't tell u going that fast...plus the v8 is quick. as i'm coming over this small hill a cop is coming head on (unaware to me they're radar is on when they're driving) i slow down but not in time he busts me. The ticket is going 53 in a 30 zone. I don't know if anyone has had any experience with this but i don't care if i have to pay a fine, i'm afraid of points b/c i need to drive back and forth to hosfstra everyday!! I was busted by Sands Point police (******* rent-a-cop) and have to appear or mail in the ticket (doesn't say how much) my dad's an atty and he's going to talk to another defense atty buddy of his. I just wanted to get some insight into the situation as i don't need this shit with my mother on her death bed.

so any heads up i can get on the price tag of the fine and or point or how to avoid them i would really appreciate it. Thanks guys

price tag of the fine should be on the back
or call the office listed on it and they will tell you.

I'll refrain from negative comments.

First, how old are you? I ask that because if your in your 20's and this is your first ticket, you can get it pled down to nothing. If your 16, it could be a different story.

When i got my first speedin ticket in NY it got pled down to just "failure to obey a traffic safety device". It was like 1 point on my license with a $150 fine. Nothin too big. However I was doing (i should say that the crooked cop SAID i was going) 60 in a 45. Since you were doing over 20mph over the speed limit, it could be a diff story.

None the less DO NOT mail in the ticket. NEVER mail in the ticket and plead guilty. You can usually knock it down to something smaller if you go to court, not to mention whether you go to court or not, their still going to hit you with the court costs (generally MORE expensive then the actual fine). You can call the police station and get the number for the DA, give them a call and they'll have it knocked down for you.

EDIT: Ok so one somewhat negative comment. DO NOT give the DA or the court the same bullshit excuse that you just posted here. It's called a brake pedal, it's how you slow down an automatic. All you have to say is that you don't drive the car often and your not used to a v8 engine. You had no clue you were even going that fast until the officer pulled you over.

alright i understand, no need to lecture. i know i was wrong, and believe me its taught me a lesson. i'm 19 by the way, turning 20 in jan. and while those excuses are a little thin, i'll be a douche and stand by them for here on the forums. But thanks for the input, i really am not used to the 8cyl. compared to my little 1.8l

i know i was wrong, and going alittle too fast, but lets face it. i'm young in a nice, fast car, with another young guy, in an expensive area (you can wrong side of the track me if u want), and its the end of the month quota time and the cop was sorta being a hard ass b/c i apologized alot when he pulled me over. and i think maybe it was 45mph (i honestly wasn't looking at the speedometer)
but thanks for the input.

You should be fine if your 19. That's 3 years of driving with out a speeding ticket which should mean something. I certainly wouldn't yell at you for speeding. I've done some dumb shit when i was 16/17.

All the speeding tickets I've ever gotten (three total) were totally bogus. Two were from the same prick that loved marking up your speed. The third was driving in a car pool lane on easter sunday doing 9mph over the speed limit. The car pool lane doesn't even really HAVE a speed limit. None the less i think of it this way and so should you.

Every time you get nabbed for something bogus just think about all the times you did stupid shit and got away with it. Then think about how much trouble you would have been in if you had been pulled over doing it. It kinda makes things seem not so bad anymore.

I wouldn't worry too much about 53 in a 30 zone. Tickets i've gotten when i used to drive my mustang include:

------
Speeding in excess of 80 (wantagh parkway)
------
97 in 65 zone (route 81, near syracuse)
------
and the mother of all speeding tickets, grand central parkway:
reckless driving
reckless endangerment
110 in 50 zone
unsafe lane changing
tailgating

those 5 above were all in the same shot...and i was racing a bike.

I got arrested, spent the night and half of the next day in jail, had to attend anger management, and in total it cost me $5k.

What i'm trying to say is that i never even lost my license. 53 in a 30 is a 6 point ticket, and through new york state, if you take a defensive driving course, you'll get 4 points knocked off of that. But, since this is your first ticket, they'll almost definitely plead you down. Is your ticket town of hempstead, or is there a court in sands point? I think that if it's hempstead, you'll have an easier time getting off, although you should probably set aside like 3 or 4 hours for going to court...sometimes they're REALLY slow there.

I go to hofstra too, by the way. do we have classes wednesday?

i know how you might feel and going through.. what you should do is fight it.. hire a lawyer and let him take care of it.. mean while make sure you are driving safely and following the speed limit unless you have to pass a huge truck but slow down once you past the truck.. other than then that you have really nothing to worry about... i had my first speeding ticket 07 april and its aug. 2008. i am 24 years old.. so,. take driving defense courses and lower your insurance rate.. whatever you gotta do.. they will lower your future points too..

If he's lucky, they'll knock it down to three life sentences.

thats funny cuz my best friends mom drives a 2005 mustang gt a big black one and i get what ur talkin about we were going 240km an hour on the highway one time and we didnt get caught and it felt like nothing. but ya just go to court and see what happens they usually knock it down and if your dads an attorney? then why would u ask us for legal advice when ur dad could go with u and knock it out of the park. look at the ticket match it up make sure he got everything right in canada anyways if u get a ticket with something wrong on it like license plate (happend to me) they throw the ticket out. Those v8s are a huge diff from my si 2L to the v8 4.6L but you just gotta be careful and those gauges are huge in the stang.
