I thought it looked terrible from the previews. Made me think:

Racing is to The Fast and the Furious

as

Fighting is to Never Back Down

I saw an ad for it in the paper, and the graphics were EXACTLY like Fast and the Furious. I got a laugh out of it :)

Some spokesperson for the movie was saying that it was supposed to show how violence is not the answer, blah, blah, blah.... but from what I can tell, it's doing nothing but condoning fighting. Correct me if I'm wrong 08WhiteCivic, but that's just the way it seems to me.

ULTRA-REALISTIC. That's how it portrays MMA. Every great MMA fighter was great in high school due to the high level of competition in high schools. I remember all the fight club/mansion parties I went to in high school... those were good times, man. Did I mention this is about high school kids?

It's almost as much fun as when I was in high school in the inner city on the cheerleading squad. We constantly had to bring it on. Or when me and my dance crew had to step up. Or when I was a gymnast and had to remember to stick it. Or when I was part of the drum line.

I did a lot in high school. I'm glad there are so many quality films that accurately depict what life was like at the time...

Yeah I remember this time I screwed a pie a few days before I went to band camp and had a flute shoved up my pooper.

i havent seen it and will not go and see it.

this movie says that its supposed to show mma to the world but and it does it in the worst possible way.

being an mma fan, i highly disapprove of this movie. their fights are all unsanctioned, no ref, and have a cage of people surrounding them. its more of a street fight rather than "mma". they are all laguna beach white boys who just drive around in their hummers and have a fightclub in their backyards. gah. i think this does more damage to mma than fast and the furious did to the import scene

I don't know who got owned, but if you were referring to me I stated a simple fact and your comment was out of place as well as if civsnakes comment was somehow aimed at me in a bad way, but I don't want to interpret what you said since this is the internet.

I am a true follower of the sport and knowing how far the sport has come, there is a huge chance this movie will set mma back a few years and all of its progress will be shot to shit. I only want to see this movie to see what I think its effect on the sport will be. I never said I thought it was going to be realistic at all.

I think he just meant "Never Back Down" got owned by life. I don't think anyone believes that this movie will be good for the sport. You'll probably see a rush of people (well, kids) trying to get involved, hear a couple news stories about backyard boxing, the video game will get terrible reviews, and then it will all blow over. TFATF has had a longer lasting impact than this will, simply because after the first couple of times a kid gets the crap beat out of him, he'll probably stop wanting to do it. Or her/she'll.

And to be honest, I already think MMA is getting too big for its own good... look at all the product placement and reality TV surrounding it. At this point Boxing looks more genuine.

^ Yeah, no don't worry that wasn't aimed at you. That was aimed at every high-schooler movie.... basically every single one civsnake mentioned :)

Ya I didn't think you guys meant anything towards me, but towards the fact that when movies do things like this they never do it right.

Yeah mma spiked after TUF started. A lot of people wanted to get into it just because they thought they were bad and what not, but those people soon learned that it takes a lot of work and effort into learning the techniques of the sport and being good at it. Everyone now a days think that they are the next KIMBO who is also going to put the sport to shame imo.

I never really got into the whole Kimbo thing... it's a big black guy who beats people up in street fights. Mr. T did that shit while looking after a crazy Vietnam vet and turning an ice cream truck into walking robot with flamethrowers and racing stripes. And T did it wearing all that gold, so he was even handicapped in his fights.

The only thing really remarkable I see about Kimbo is his stamina. He outlasts a lot of people and has relatively quick hands. Other than that he just seems to square off against underqualified challengers. I'll take Sakuraba any day.

I agree that it can compare to F&F. After seeing F&F everyone got out and started racing everyone after the movie. Now everyone is going to get out and start fighting eachother. It seemed to me it was aimed towards UFC. Im not into the whole UFC or karate (SP?) so forgive me if im wrong lol. I enjoyed watching it because some of the fight scenes were pretty cool.

-This movie does not portray violence as not beeing the answer. I think it portray's the opposite.
