No Country For Old Men
Thoughts?
Opinions? I give it a 6/10. Not great, not terrible, falls somewhere between good and bad. Ill post why I think so after a few other posts as to not bombard readers with spoilers right off the bat. It got amazing reviews. I find myself with the 3% of the movie critic populous that thought the movie was terrible. And find similar answers in about 75% of the people who Ive actually talked to in the theatre who saw it. Thoughts? |

I saw it and thought it was excellent. One of the best films of the year. Javier Bardem was absolutely ruthless in this film. He is nominated for all types of film awards for the role. Hey if you didn't like it maybe you should stick to corporate films like Transformers.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Thats what makes my opinion unbiased. I dunno who Javier Bardem is, I dont care about Oscars and Academy Awards. I dont classify films based on who made them, what they are about, nor whatever propaganda or advertising it may spew. I can say a "corporate" flick is terrible as well. I thought Transformers wasnt that great, it lacked many things, as did this movie. I classify films on whether they were enjoyable, or not. A film doesnt have to be happy go lucky nor have a happy ending to be a good movie, No Country For Old Men had neither of those, nor did it really build a developed storyline. I like to be able to think about things by myself, and not have it fed to me with a spoon. It had no ending, leaving things open to interpretation is different from having no ending. If every movie pulled what they pulled in this film, would every film win awards for being "mysterious" and "deep"? No. Loose ends are different from plot holes, or chunks of missing storyline. Ruthless killer? The movie said what he was: A homicidal psychopath. It fits pretty well. There didnt feel like there was much more to it, because his character was too underdeveloped to derive anything more. That being said, this movie was mediocre at best. It had its moments, but in the end it left me confused and disappointed. Confused may be what they were aiming for, but no movie goer should walk out disappointed. Definitely not worthy of multiple awards of any kind. So justify why you think this was the movie of the year. Something a little more profound than "maybe you should stick to corporate films like Transformers" ? Last edited by Kakashi; 12-31-2007 at 06:44 PM. |

enjoyed this movie very much, although they could have taken it a little further in the end. I know why a lot of people didn't like it, because its not the run of the mill mainstream movie thats always put out. It was well done and I wouldn't mind seeing it again

Are there zombies in this film? If there's no zombies, I'm not seeing it.
The Dark Side often interjects what at first seem to be random comments, however, upon second blush, are even less germane.

I'll admit the way they shot some of the scenes was excellent, definitely put me on edge for short periods.
No offense, but stereotyping that every other film besides this one as "generic" and that they lack "depth" is a pretty weak argument. Everyone's interpretations of a film can be different. I just want to hear some thoughts on WHY you thought it was a good movie. |

Hmmm. I prefer my zombies in the film, not the audience. Having to fight off drooling, flash-starved hordes while watching a movie is distracting. I'll pass.

I actually saw it for the second time last night, the GF wanted to see it. Alot of people were really upset at the end, but if you really think about the move, and think it over, the end was perfect. Everything was answered. Awsome movie!

i wanted to sleep most of the way through the movie. I read "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy and found it dull and hard to get into and stay in it.
