Harvey Dent was Gotham City's District Attorney. In his early years as a politician, he was called Harvey "Two-Face" Dent by the police units (as noted in the hospital scene between Commissioner Gordon and Dent).

He and Batman had a decent relationship. Dent's optimistic outlook on "fate", which was an important facet of his personality, is demonstrated by the carrying of the two-faced coin (no tails side), so that the outlook was always bright.

But because Batman chose to save Dent over Rachel (Dent's love), he never forgave Batman or the police for not saving Rachel. After his scarring, the Joker's visit to him showed him a perverse side of justice.

By dealing in chance fate, it was much more solid of a lifestyle than the way politics and justice was set up. Dent, now Two-Face, uses his coin (one side scarred from the explosion as well) to dictate whether justice is on his side or against it.

As far as we know, Dent dies at the end of The Dark Knight when he is pushed out of the window by Batman. But Batman chooses to take the wrath of Dent's psychotic personality change. He realized that by destroying what good Harvey Dent did for Gothem by showing the world what Dent ultimately ended up doing, that he, a masked, nameless crusader, could take the blame for it at less of a cost to the city.

So, in a way, Batman is whatever Gotham wants him to be: hero or villain. By taking the fall for Dent's post-burned choices, people viewed Dent as being a courageous, heroic politician who was all good. The "White Knight. The good Dent did was never scarred by people knowing the truth about what happens when good people go bad.

Loved this movie. The Joker was INSANE!!! The beginning was crazy when they robbed the bank and they all ended up dying but the Joker.

"You guys wanna see a magic trick?" BAM!

I have a question that I doubt anyone knows the answer to.

Why the HELL did they bring back Cillian Murphy to do an awesome job as Scarecrow only to make him look like a dumbass in the first half hour? I get the whole fake Batman thing, and the vigalante justice thing...but last we saw Scarecrow, he was goofy in the head from his fear toxin, and riding a horse off into the chaos of the Narrows in Batman Begins.

I felt that was a loose string that Nolen didn't tie up very well.

What do you guys think Nolan was trying to portray with all of the dogs in this movie? Releasing the hounds on Batman? I mean I am sure the obvious answer is the joker=the dogs ruthless and evil and they can get to batman in ways that others can't; just like the joker can. Anyone think there is anything else to this? What a great movie.

The scarecrow was a loser anyway imho...who cares how he went down...

That Magic trick was one of my favorite parts. It was definately Ledger's best performance IMO. Or when he was leaving the hospital dressed as a nurse trying to get the detonator to work right LOL

I was laughing so hard during that part. The way he was walking was so bloody hilarious.

I'm going to sound like an idiot. But who was the scarecrow? I don't remember seeing him and I don't remember what he looked like from the first movie.

Just saw this movie - wow. Far and away the best movie I've ever seen. Well deserving of the #3 spot on IMDB.

Dr. Jonathan Crane was a psychologist in Gotham City who ran Arkham Asylum for the Insane in the Narrows (slums) of Gotham City. He was played by the [very sexy] Cillian Murphy in Batman Begins and the beginning of the Dark Knight.

He is a corrupt psychologist in that he uses drugs not to benefit his patients (who are mostly criminals), but to experiment new forms of psychological alteration of people.

In the movie, Batman gives him a doze of his own fear toxin (the spray he uses that causes people to hallucinate horrid things, and what was eventually released in the Narrows of Gotham), and, in having this occur, he becomes insane.

I love how the title of the movie "The Dark Knight" makes so much sense after finishing the movie. How Harvey Dent was called the White Knight and how batman takes the blame. Anyone else get goosebumps at the last scene when Gordon narrates while batman rides off into the light?

Ahhh, now I remember. I was thinking he was the guy with the goat-tee. But yeah, so he was scarecrow eh? I don't remember him in the Dark Night tho.
