Legalized stealing in Chicago

I wanted to let those who drive in Chicago should know about the red light cameras. They have been giving a ton of tickets for running red lights but the problem I have is they are giving drivers tickets who make a right turn on a red light. The department of revenue in Chicago says that you have to make a COMPLETE stop at the red light and then you can make a right turn on a red light. If you don't make a complete stop and they do mean complete stop, you will receive a $90.00 ticket for making an illegal right turn. They don't just take a photograph of the violation they also have video cameras at every photo enforced intersection to provide further proof of your violation.

If they want to ticket people for running red lights, fine we can all understand that. But right turns on red lights? That's legalized stealing. They've got a serious backwards robin hood thing goin' on.

My advice to drivers in Chicago is to avoid these intersections entirely. I'll often take alternate streets, bc I don't want to take the chance with B.S. laws like this.

they have that here in the bay area esp. the Millbrae area, you MUST stop completely b4 turning right on read, and honestly just do it so you dont get a ticket. if you dont stop its considered rolling the light, and technically its true.

I don't blame the government. This is how accidents happen. You have retards not stopping at red light right turns and this, is what causes some accidents.

haha, yea, we have a lot of those in the bay area, in my city Fremont. mostly on the two main roads Paseo Padre and Fremont Blvd. You're suppose to treat a red light like a stop sign for right turns.

ya my uncle got a ticket for running a red light somwhere in Chicago. He didnt realize it until the ticket was sent to him with a picture of his license plate. There is one close to my house near the new mall in Bolingbrook (Promenade Mall). Im not sure whether to turn right at the red or just stay till it turns green.

Let's be clear on one thing, first and foremost it's about generating revenue, not saving people's lives. And maybe I wouldn't be so against this specific form of generating revenue if so many city and state officials here in illinois weren't being sent to federal prisons by the FBI. Hvae fun in prison former governor of illinois, george ryan.

The vast majority of accidents are not a result from a person making a right turn on a red light at an intersection.

Nobody said the majority of them are right turn @ red lights, but there are plenty of them out there.

I just wanted to make others aware of what the department of revenue in Chicago is doing, that's all. Personally I disagree with generating revenue on frivolous violations like right turns on red lights or jay walking, walking outside of a cross walk, things like that.

All I'm saying is ticket people for running red lights, excessive speeding, or even ticket the idiot lady who drove on the wrong side of the road bc she got too impatient with the traffic ahead of her. She almost hit my new civic.

Otherwise it seems like legalized stealing to feed the pockets of often times corrupt city officials.

its like not completely stopping at a stop sign. you wouldnt do it if there was a cop right next to you at a stop sign, but most would say its safe enough if there are no other cars. but who knows, accidents happen.

Most people in Chicago, didn't know that you can receive a ticket for not making a complete stop at a red light before making a right turn. And the city of chicago will show no mercy to you even if you slow down to 1 mph. They require a complete stop.

I just wanted to start this thread to make people aware of this so they didn't have to give away their money.

also, if you think about pedestrians, a lot of times drivers will slow down and check for traffic coming to the left and totally drive over the crosswalk, dont see any cars, and make the right turn. a friend of mine during high school was hit like that and was sent to the ER, thankfully she made it out fine.

ok, ok it can be dangerous, but I still think most people don't know about the right turn enforcement. The chicago tribune (most read newspaper in chicago) wrote an article about it.

I got a ticket like that a while back from an officer. 90 dollars is certainly better then 300. Its considered running a red light.
