Hey,
Does anyone know a real good and reliable shop in our area? I live by Naperville but I am willing to travel. Someone told me about a "one six" motorsports or something like that. I'm looking to do some dyno runs and tuning as well as pricing out a turbo/supercharger or a ECU re-flash. Past experiences are best. What did you do and how was your experience? Price good? I'll pay for good work. Cheap is never the best. Thanks. |

One 6 is a great shop, in my opinion. Mark will give you a good price and good labor on almost everything. I know he's installed one turbo kit on our gen SI but he does not have the dyno capabilities. I think he might have purchased one but didn't get it up and running and might not even have it anymore. I never got into any tuning questions with him so I'm not sure about his capabilities but I know he just used the standard map that came with the turbo setup he installed.
There's a place out in Carol Stream that does almost nothing but Honda builds called SUJA one motoring. I stopped by there to talk to them about tuning and the guys in the shop were more than friendly, showed me around the shop and even helped me look for cam options as well as sway bars. Long story short the guy that runs the shop has tuning experience but still has to use someone else's dyno. I'd check out both places and ask your questions there. I have not heard anything bad about either shop and have used both. Let us know what option you go down: re-flash with NA build or the forced induction road. |

Ok thanks for the info. Not sure which way to go yet. Forced induction is so sick and easy. I'll prolly go that road. I've wanted to put a turbo in my Si since I saw some youtube videos. I also have heard from a good source of people that the K20 loves turbos and superchargers with no problems blowing engines.

I work in wooddale every day about a block away from this place and never knew about it. i may have to stop by after the holiday season and see if they take an interest in my Si. being a hondata dealer i'd imagine they'd have some good stuff for me. I've been going to ProFunction... my buddy works there and all their shop cars are Si's of different generations. They're geniuses with a B-series but they see a lot of Ks too. |

no problem. if you do go, tell the owner Alex, that I sent you...Mike with the Civic Si. that's how he knows me...lol.
And Shertz, yes i have the 5% tint all around including fronts. Got pulled over 3 times so far, and only so far got 1 warning. got nothing for the last 2 times. my wife and I agree, I won't take the front off until I actually get an actual ticket hahha

my fave place. ive been to one 6, im not a fan. mark has his stock of parts, and yea, sometimes he gives you a good price. but for labor.. eh. long story short he put me on the backburners, and i just gave up and went to profuction for the first time. Pro function is great. really cool people, good prices, and they do really good work. they just upgraded their shops to a new place, with more room. they work on hondas mainly, but i had my suby worked on there too, with great service. id at least drive out there and check them out. Topsetup i hear is a great place, but i have never been there. their' cars are badass tho from youtube videos lol. i have also heard very good things from friends who have been there. |

Case in point; I went up there several years ago with my buddy to pick up his GSR with a fully built NA motor. Right as we're passing through the first Illinois tolll plaza on the trip home the car just died. Ended up being the crank pully bolt backed out. 60MPH + immobile valves + interference motor = smashed valves, pistons and a cracked block. King ended having to replace most of the motor. Took about 2 months to source the parts and finish it again. But once it was down the car was a blast to drive. |
