So i was crusing north on 95 in Chesterfield county, went to pass the car infront of who was swerving and then thats when it happened. The cop gave me a ticket saying i was going 89 in a 60. I couldn't tell you if i was going that fast b/c i was more concerned about passing the man swerving and makeing me nervous. Looked up the laws and stuff online and found out that it is classified as a Class 1 misd. I'm up there with the drug dealers and all.
If there is anyone on here that could give me some advise or there story of what happened to you in court that would help me out a lot. O by the way this is my first ticket ever in my life, i'm 22, in the military. HHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:confu sed: |

Since its your first time, they might be a little leaniant. If you were going 89 in a 60 zone, you are 20 mph over the limit. In VA thats automatic wreckless driving.
Luckily he didn't get you at 90 because starting with 90 and over you can serve jailtime. My advice is take a driver's improvement course before the court date. I had wreckless in VA earlier this year but I've had prior tickets so I needed to get a traffic lawyer. I think mine was little worse, 87 in a 50 zone.... so I think you might get by ok. But definitely get the driver's improvement course done. The judge might bring it down to regular speeding since it's your first offense. Good luck though man... you gotta be careful in VA.

I love these "I was driving like and idiot and now don't want to be responsible for my actions" threads.
Natural selection > whiny speeders

http://www.courts.state.va.us/Maybe this will help you out. In VA. its $5 every MPH over the posted speed limit. you can find out how much your ticket will be with the site given. Take a driving course BEFORE you go to court. Bring all your documentation saying you went. And then bend over and take it like a man and say thank you.

our officers are either prior military or in reserves I can tell you for a fact this statement is not true for all departments -as for the ticket and driving school, you can only go to driving school once every so many years so if you have a clean record you might want to really think about this --if you get another ticket and need to go in the future it may not be an option- -as for the fine, it is so much for every mile over the limit as well as cost of court fees..and if you were in a safety zone the fines are more (double I think) .. another thing is DO NOT call your insurance company-- a lot of people call their insurance first thing to find out if their rates will go up but actually, insurance companies are not necessarily notified automatically if you get a ticket. usually they do random checks on your driving record so they may never find out about the ticket ..usually the officer will note what happened on the stop so if you were cooperative, honest, etc, he will usually note that and let the judge know so hopefully this officer will do the same ..with all that being said, this is going to be a very expensive ticket--good luck ![]() |

I agree with you there..... I've worked with law enforcement in NOVA before and no they dont hate the military, its just that guys who are former military dont want the guys who are currently in the military to wave their mil id's around thinking that they will get out of a ticket that way.... There are some Federal Agencies that will tell you the same, not to wave around your credentials to police because they wont appreciate it either... Anyway... I hope that things go the right way in court, I've been lucky enough to have my one speeding ticket in the middle of nowhere VA dismissed... Good luck, hope the judge atleast knocks it down so it's not a wreckless. You might want to explain your story about what happened on the road..... |

So I have an update for you all. I went to court all dressed up in my service dress and looking sharp. Came out of there with a $200 fine plus court cost($67) and 30 days suspension in VA. I am have liscenced in Ohio so they can't put points on my record yepeee!!!!!!! I came out of there so lucky. I saw a few guys going a little faster thatn me get put away for 10 days to 90 days. I dodged the bullet on this one. So please don't have the next meet in VA.
