Has anyone takin their SI back to dealer for a notchy feeling 2nd gear yet?

Im really starting to notice this problem where only 2nd gear has this double click to it. 1st,3rd,4th,5th and 6th are all fine though?? its only second gear that feels strange, like this from 1st to neutral is fine but when entering second you will feel the first notch and pull alittle hard then it will cluick again into seconds gear?? Im learning to drive with this but it really pisses me off because its a brand new car, and when ever you wanna drive it hard you have to be extra carefull of 2nd gear!! thats bullshit! Has anyone ever tried taking their car back to dealer?? what did they have to say about it??

Same response as at CSi, no problems for me. I auto-X just about every other weekend and it would have been apparent quickly.

i thought i was crazy until i let other friends drive it, it feels like their are two second gears?? if you forget and let the clutch out on the first notch it will grind or pop out?? wtf?? you have to pull into the first notch and then keep alppying presure then it will fall into gear, this is with the clutcl all the way to the floor at and any rpms, but esppecially higher rpms. this couldnt be normal?

that is the exact same thing that happens to my 3rd gear. it gets really annoying when i'm doing some lazy shifting cause i put in 3rd (the first notch) then it pops out when i let go of the clutch. sometimes it even grinds a little then pops out i've kinda learned to deal with it but if it's something that i need to address then i guess i'll have to find the time to get it fixed.

i think it might be something to do with triple Syncros. Mine was realllly bad in the beginning. I have 13,000kms on my Si now, and its gotten much better. EVOs and Ralliart mitsubishi's have the same problem. So does the S2000 and rsx type-s

even happens to us r18 owners, it seems as though it gets gated before it goes into second. I grinded badly one time when i thought it was in.

bad syncros.

try changing your transmission fluid, and use better oil, see if that helps.

if it still does it, you're S.O.L

Unhappy "Graunchy Gears, Shifting"

I have a 2005 S2000 (on wait list for 2007 Si) so this may be of help:
Early S2Ks did have problems with graunching on shifts into 2nd gear. This is no longer the case with the newer cars.

S2Ks have a direct shift linkage, as opposed to cable. Even so, it is possible to have gear "pop-outs" in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. You have to make sure you are putting the clutch pedal ALL the way down on every shift. I have had pop-outs when I got careless or distracted. I'm sure this is the case with MTs in general; it's not necessarily limited to the Si.

For the first 3000 miles, my S2K 3rd gear was "balky." This is now completely gone at 8200 miles. The gear just got smoother over time - it didn't happen all at once.

Newer S2Ks have carbon fiber synchronizer rings. Don't know about the Si. Perhaps others more savvy than I can comment on that.

NOTE: There is some evidence that changing your transmission fluid can smooth out gear changes. Claims have been made for the GM Syncro product (see "The OIL JOURNALS!" on 8th Civic) as well as for Redline and Amsoil. My car has the original Honda product still in the tranny w/o problems.

Hope this has some value to new Civic owners. I don't believe there is any one answer to this when it is a known, continuing PITA. It would look like the best idea would be to have a mechanic or auto "techie" you trust drive the car with you in it and go from there. Yeah, I know, often easier said than done!

i am really watching it very closely. It seems to have gotten much better. Could be driving skill, as this is my first manual car. I am not sure. I am gunna watch it for another thousand or two. Just because i don't really have a crazzy grinding of gears. Its just a rough syncro, that too rarely now. Maybe a few minutes when i start driving. After about 5 minutes, its butter smooth. and i doubt it will be too damaging even if there is some. Anywas, keep us posted if someone determines a sure cause of it.
