R18 A/T tranny problem

Since new it makes alot of noise when switching from P to D or from P to R or vice versa.

Pop clash pop is what i hear.
Sometimes after i put it into D and let go of the gas the transmission still has not engaged and the car jerks when the gear engages.

The car currently has 5500 miles on it and i still have this problem.
Other then this the car drives fine and shifts gears smoothly.

I shot a Video back in the day when it only had around 2500 miles.
The camera is under the car, sorry that it is so dark and not clear but take a look at it and let me know if you experience the same popping noises when switching gears.

You might have to turn your volume up.

UPDATE
New videoo
Took a test drive today in a 08 and the shifting was quieter and did not have the popping noises i hear. But it also was late when i switched from D to R or vice versa.

Could have been inproperly filled with fluid form the factory, could be shift linkage is not adjusted properly, could be you only have 5000 miles of a 3yr/36000 mile warranty and just take it to the dealer.

i will be taking it to the dealer as soon as i can make an appointment for the 2 recalls.
But i just wanted to make sure others are not having this problem so i will be sure somethign is wrong so they wont try to tell me its normal or w.e dealers like to do.
ps. fluid looks good when i looked at the dipstick with warm engine running.

Any auto tranny is going to jump in some form or fasion in to gear, the R18 has really soft motor mount to help copensate for it but will not eliminate it. You can always test drive another car while you're waiting for the tech to diagnose the car. I dunno how many times I'd go get a car off the lot to show someone normal operation by comparison.

i will probably test drive another car also but from what i heard my brothers girl friends mothers honda lx 08 a.t shifts smooth with no noise and they beat on the car and shift very quickly.
i take my time and shift slowly and wait 3 seconds for the gear to go in but its still kind of ruff from time to time and loud.

human error and mechanical error happen, both can be fixed.

If that first part of the vide before you see the dash is transmission clunks then that's definately pretty loud. I've driven plenty of cars while working at dealers that had loud transmissions, but yours just sounds pretty loud unless it's in a garage. Most Honda cars I have driven have given a nice loud slap sound when going from R to D, just slack in the drivetrain. Your video definately sounds wierd though, except for when the dash shows up, then it sounds fine.

I have a 'clank' during rolling stops and when going into 'D,' as well. I'm just gonna take it into the dealer.

What are the 2 recalls for our R18 cars? To which body style and year do they pertain?

1. What is the reason for this notice?

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has decided that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2006-07 model year Civic vehicles equipped with the anti-lock brake systems (ABS). The ABS module uses wheel speed sensors located on each wheel hub assembly. Some wheel sensors may have been improperly installed and do not seal the hub assembly. Water may enter the hub assembly and damage the wheel bearing. In areas where road salt is used, the wheel bearings may corrode even more quickly, which may cause the wheel to separate and fall off, increasing the risk of a crash.

2.Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has decided that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2006 model year Civics. During vehicle assembly, the telescopic steering column mechanism may have been over-lubricated with silicone grease. Over time, some of this extra grease may drip on the brake light switch and the brake light switch may fail. Failure may result in a loss of brake lights and an increased risk that your vehicle could be struck from the rear. In addition, a failed brake light switch could prevent shifting the transmission from the park position (applies to vehicles with an automatic transmission)

When I drove an 07 EX AT as a loaner, I don't recall any clunking popping noise when shifting.

I am definitely having similar issues. 2006 4Dr EX. It shifts really hard into drive, and especially hard when I am coming to a stop and it goes back into first gear. Taking it in this week, I'll update.

I hear a "chug" and the car jerks backwards or forwards (when shifting from P to R or between R and D). However, this only happens when the engine is cold, especially since the engine at this point is at high idle. After a few minutes, it's smooth. In fact, this is the smoothest A/T I've ever driven.

EDIT: Ok, just saw the videos. The 2nd video pretty much sums up my observation (cold engine with RPM at high idle).

hmm...i have an 07 lx AT and when going from park to reverse the car also jolts and makes a noise as it sets in reverse. Maybe its b/c im parked on a SLIGHT uphill? I do use the e-brake sometimes and if i hold the break pedal, release e-brake, and shift to R from P it sounds a bit smoother. Also when reversing i usually give it some gas, pop it into Neutral, then shift into D as the car is rolling(not fast) and it sometimes jolts, sometimes doesnt, i dunno :S.
