Gas pump sensor..
When I fill my car up, I just leave the pump alone until it stops, which usually means that it is full, but my lately, I've been finding out that I still have 3 or 5 bars to be filled in after the fill up. What do you guys think is wrong? What can I do?

![]() Some pumps are more sensitive to the pressure change and some pumps may try and feed the fuel a little too fast which causes it to build up in the filler neck and turn the pump off. Also if the pump is one of the type that reclaim the gas vapors that are being displaced inside your tank as you fill it and this mechanism gets plugged up, it can't "swallow" the gas vapors quick enough, causing pressure to build up in the tank and make the pump think you're full. If this happens I just back the pump up a bit or twist it a bit to break the seal. |

You say that the gauge says less than full, but does it still seem that you are putting the same amount of gas in, or is it taking less gallons to fill up as well?
If you are getting less in, they I'd agree with the pump shutting off too early. If it seems like you are putting the same amount of gallons in but the gauge is reading less than full then you might have a bad fuel gauge sending unit in the tank. |
