2008 Civic Si Coupe/Sedan Transmission Questions
So I'm looking into buying a new 2008 Si Coupe or Sedan soon and i've been reading up on all the transmission problems that the 06-08 models have had. My question is, if I buy a new Si now, will I have the same transmission problems that so many others are having with their Si's now?
I know that the TSB states that only certain '08 models are to be concerned and the rest are fitted fine. But for all the other people that have bought their Si's recently, have there been any problems? |

I bought my 2008 FG2 on Dec 31, 2007. I have nearly 5000 miles on it and zero transmission problems. I did recently change the transmission fluid with Amsoil MTF and it improved the smoothness of the already great transmission!
You gotta understand that more people b1tch about problems then they do praise things that work. Although rightfully so, that is still the nature of the beast. Last edited by habitat; 05-12-2008 at 04:04 AM. |

I've had mine for just over a month. The build date on it is 3-08. Tranny is fine. Like the other's have mentioned, it was a little "notchy", but that is pretty normal for a new tranny. I did switch out my fluid to the Amsoil MTF last week, and it helped a lot. It's still a little "notchy" when I first start out and the fluid is cold. After a few miles, it's very smooth.
I do believe that Honda finally got the bugs worked out on the 08's tranny. Now for interior rattles, that is a different story ![]() |

Haha that's all sounding good. So do you think that somehow I can get the dealership to switch me out the transmission fluid even before i get the new car because i also heard that some dealership b*tch about switching out transmission fluid, causing you to lose your warrantee.

I then took the car to the very mod friendly dealer where I bought my 06 EX, and they did it no questions asked for $20 labor. I would have done it myself, but I'm temp living in an apartment, and they don't want us working on our cars???? I guess it just depends on the dealer? Oh, and no matter what they tell you, you only need two quarts. It's probably not a bad idea to run the OEM fluid for a couple thousand miles, then drain and put the Amsoil in. This will get all the crap from the assembly process out of the tranny. Otherwise, your syn fluid will get contaminated pretty quick. |
