Engine break in -

I bought a new air compressor and the owners manual has a break-in period. So I ignored the break in period as suggested by the owners manual. What do those guys know anyways.

The owners manual says to run the compressor with the air drain open for 15 minutes. Instead I did the exact opposite since the I am way smarter than the engineers. I closed the air vent valve and hooked up a air ratchet. Turned it on for 30 minutes and used the tool wide open.

After 31 minutes of use I can say my breakin period worked and is way better then what the manual calls for.

End sarcasim I did exactly as the owners manual stated.

It's funny that even a 200.00 air compressor has a breakin period. Yet people drop 20k on a new Honda and refuse to follow the break in period or even admit that it might be a good idea to follow what the manual says.

LOL!!! You make a lot of sense there... What compressor you got? I turned mine on full blast the first time and haven't looked back. 2 years and counting. Good point on FOLLOWING THE OWNERS MANUAL tho.

I bought one from Sears in December and did the same thing...I was so excited I fired it up and started testing out all the tools. Then a week later read through the manual about the break in procedure.

No problems...yet...

Thoes Sears oil free compressors are soooo f*cking louuuuud. I can't stand them.

My friend has one and I can't even hear myself think when it's on. I've got a 20 something year old oil type compressor at my house and it's so much quieter.

The thing that gets me is that some people on here say screw the recommended break-in procedure. They have every excuse imaginable why you shouldn't follow Honda recommended break-in procedures and should beat on your car...

Yet you mention putting anything less than 91 octane in a SI and people FREAK out! Why?..... Because it's not recommended by Honda!

-Air up tires.
-Power up air tools for example to remove wheels with an impact to work on brakes, tie rods etc.
-Blow dust and dirt of dash, seats etc.

that sort of stuff

Air compressors can be used to fill up your tires at home, impact wrench for easy tire rotations, air ratchet for easy work on cars. Air nozzle to blow out/off water when I wash my motorcycle. To clean air filters.

-
My dad bought an air compressor aabout 15 years ago. I am sure he never did any breakin period or any maintanence on it. I still use the same compressor. Just the metal tubing is busted and leaks.

-
Point is people like to say the break-in period is just a myth yet almost every engine I own has an owners manual that calls for a break-in period.

Think about it. If it wasnt important they could shorten EACH owners manual by 2 pages multiplied by the number of owners manuals printed multiplied by the number of years.

IF they did this from say 1960 i bet they would have saved millions of dollars just not printing those 2 pages, not to mention all the repairs $$ they could make off engines blowing up/breaking earlier then expected because they werent properly broken in.

INSTRUCTIONS ARE MEANT TO BE FOLLOWED, THATS WHY THEY ARE THERE..

all you people that dont like following directions, next time you have a headache take 20 advil instead of the recommened dose. Because what does the person that MAKES the product know about it besides EVERYTHING!

i dont see why some people are so arrogant to following the owner's manual and wait at least 600 miles before . i personally waited 1k miles just to make sure.
