I have to say I'm a Castrol Synetc addict, I've used it in all of my cars and who knows if it has made a difference, but it is always cleaner than conventional oil when I change it out and I've never had problems with my engine burning oil either, I used Syntec in my turbo MR2 and never burned any oil and never had engine problems...I figure oil is one of the cheaper things for a car and it might as well get the best and it will hopefully help the engine last longer with less problems...although we are talking honda here which never have problems and last pretty damn long as it is!! haha

bill gates only had a HS diploma, but he was pretty dumb, right? now thats an extreme, but would a dealer principal really put an idiot out on his service drive of a multi-million dollar business if they werent trained or knew what they were talking abt? especially since the service end of the business usually generates enough revenue to float the entire operation? and HONDA, not dealers or dealerships, require the training. and abt 1/2 the training has to be completed at Honda Training facilities, like the one in windsor locks, CT or englewood, co. and i believe most service advisors are truthful and honest for 2 reasons: 1, they want your future business along with any referrals, it would not be beneficial to them to ring your wallet dry one time. especially since negative feedback flows to friends/family/coworkers a lot faster and further than positive feedback abt any business. and 2, they see cars everyday. its their job. just the sheer volume of vehicles and problems they see would probably blow any rally or autoX guy away. not to mention there are usually 3-8 advisors at a dealership. and i bet they are friends and share experiences. im sure w/o the Honda training, they would learn a lot. and quickly. but hey, trust ur rally and autoX guys, bc if something does go wrong, will they warranty it like the dealership or American Honda? |

lol, maybe. he sounded serious though and perform oil analysis on a regular basis. he was telling me how truck companies does it too since they tried to reduce the amount of oil change as much as they can. they only change it when the oil need to be change. but i will not let oil stay in my engine for that long though. i just can't do it.

Sure. But ask this question will you keep your car for more than XXXX miles and XXX years? Chances are you will sell it long before the effects of synthetic oil will benifit you. Will you get in a wreck or car stolen or even live long enough to see 300k+ miles on this engine to get the results of syn oil? That said I use Torco SRS syn oil and it ain't cheap. But I keep reciepts and when I sell the car in 3 years or so I will sell it myself and be able to document proper and correct oil changes with the good stuff. |
