Ok, decided to replace my MTF with amsoil, few questions.

I have a 2006 si, 15k miles, transmission sucks, doesn't pop out of gear but it grinds and is notchy as hell in 2nd and 3rd.

I've read like 10 threads on this issue, but none of them really answer the basic questions that I have.

So as far as amsoil goes ...

1) - https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/mtf.aspx Is this the correct product?
2) - How many quarts are needed to completely replace the original fluids?
3) - How hard is it to do yourself? Do you just drain the fluid and replace it from the top like motor oil, or do you need some fancy flush job?
4) - Should I go to the dealership to get it done, or should I avoid telling them about my use of non oem parts? Is it better to have an outside shop do it?
5) - I see some people saying it voids the warranty ... I don't buy this. Can anyone show exactly where the warranty states that using a superior mtf will void the warranty?
6) - Any preferred vendor for this product? If not, I'll just buy off amsoils site, because I can't find it locally.

1) Yes that the right stuff
2) 2 should be fine
3) You can do it yourself...its pretty easy. look for a DIY on here. DIY: Changing Manual Transmission Fluid
4) Don't tell the dealership
5) It won't void your warranty...look in back of owners manual. It states that you can use other fluids.
6) Just buy from them bud. Not many locals have it.

GL hope I have answered ur questions.

My car needed three bottles. Aamco's little pump thing couldn't suck up anything from the last .4 qt from the bottle so I had to go buy another.

Don't do the swap though. I did and I regret it. If you've really got a problem, it will come back with time. I thought it fixed mine, however two months down the line and it's back in full force. I'd suggest leaving it stock and taking it to a dealer to get the transmission work done on it.

I agree. Try to get the TSB first.

I have to say that the AMSOIL helped my car out a good bit.

I still haven't yet to get the TSB done yet because after I installed my short shifter and the amsoil it rides much better.

I will be taking off the short shifter tomorrow probably and bringing it in for them to test after that.

GL to me.

I just replaced mine in my 08 FA5 with Amsoil MTF. I only have 2,200 miles on my car, but the shifting sucked! It is now much improved, but still doesn't engage smooth everytime into 2nd, 3rd, and sometimes 6th.

BTW - Any DFW, TX guys who want some, I have a Preferred Customer Account with Amsoil. I can get the MTF for $7.20 a qt. Retail is $9.25 a qt. Anyone local who wants some I am more than willing to pick some up when I place my next order in a month or so.

Sorry, but I won't ship it, and I'm not looking to make any money. I'm not a dealer, just wanted to get dealer prices for myself and am more that willing to help out other fellow 8th members!

Brian

honestly if your trans is acting up even a little bit don't do the amsoil and take it to the dealer. and keep taking it there untill they fix it. if your clossest dealer won't do it email the next closses and talk 2 there service manager thats what it took for me. my car is there right now. only thing that sucks is i was saposed 2 have my car back allready but the parts are all on back order. oh and i didn't have 2 take off my short shifter.
