Road Hazard and New Tire

Hey guys,

I have a 2008 Civic Si sedan w/navi. I have 12,500 mile on the car and it came with the Summer tire package. Monday morning the TPS light came on and I had a low tire. I ended up having to replace the tire because the puncture was in the sidewall and couldn't be repaired. This is the driver front tire.

My questions is: Since the new tire was put on at the driver front position, my car pulls to the left when I accelerate. They did an alignment and the car still pulls to the left when I accelerate. It doesn't pull once I am no longer accelerating. It ONLY pulls when accelerating. I never noticed this until the new tire was put on the car. Should I have the tires rotated so that the new tire is in the back? Has anyone else experienced this? Should I bring it back to the dealer?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yes this has happend to me before. Since our cars are front wheel drive, that difference of tread on your front two tires causes the car to pull to the left ( Because this tire has more grip because it is new, thus more tread and different contact point to the road). I would reccommend rotating the new tire to the back, it should help.

The dealer should have recommended that you replace both front tires. 12,500 miles on summer tires should be near it's half life. The uneven tread on the new vs. used tire will cause alignment issues. Best thing you can do is replace the 12,500 tire with a brand new one (ASAP) and keep it at home as a spare. Later, you might need it in case of another puncture or what have you.

You guys do realize that running a old and new tire on the front rims will slowly kill your Limited Slip Differential in the transmission. You should have replaced them as a pair. Take those front tires and put them on the back NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

This is correct. The pull you feel is from a difference in tread. I didn't even know there were shops out there that would let you drive away with different treads. You need to get this fixed as soon as you can. It sucks having to pay twice as much for tires, but tires are a lot cheaper than LSD's.

If you can't get it replaced today, I'd put the goofy tire set on the rears to minimize the damage you do.

I had the new tire put in the back and the car no longer pulls. I can't figure why the tire place would put a new tire in the front on a front wheel drive car.

Anyway, the car drives fine now and i am very happy with my Si.

Thanks for your input, appreciate it.
