Engine / Gear Box effect after hard driving

I have recently bought a Honda Civic 2.0 i-vtech with K20Z engine. After the first service (1000KM), i put a test to the car. Unfortunately i was not a really good driver. I have accidentally put the gear to S without noticing it and rave the 1st gear to 80KM with out changing to 2nd gear. My question is, will it effect my engine or my gear box in the long run?

Huh, if you are saying that you down shifted into first on accident at 80kmh then yes you damaged your engine go see the dealer.

I don't think your first post was very clear. how high did first gear rev? did you accidentally downshift into first gear AT 80 kph? or were you trying to say you ran it to 8,000RPM before shifting to 2nd?

by the way, it's an i-VTEC motor.... vtech is a company that makes electronics like phones.

Yeah u were rite,my post was not very clear... The gear was at the position of S instead of D. Basically i ran it to 8,000RPM before shifting to 2nd gear. Would it effect my engine or even my gear box?...

The rev limiter is set at 8300, so if you took it to 8K your fine. WTH does S and D mean in relation to the gear you were in???

Ok got it you have a automatic? S means second D means drive, the automatics are usally 4 or 5 speeds now days. But alas I am still confused how you have a automatic and a K20? What country are you from?

Yeah, what car is it? You say it's a 2.0 Civic which is telling me it should be an Si, but they didn't come with automatics.

If it is an auto then you are fine. The auto won't let you downshift to a low enough gear to damage your engine, it's "smart".

Me from Malaysia.. Engine type is K20Z... there is no manual transmission for this civic over here except for the Type R version...

Its Honda Civic 2.0 i-vtech with K20Z engine... i dont think its a Si version.. surprising, they only have the automatic transmission for this model... one thing u must know is that, though its comes with an auto transmission, we still have the paddle shift at the steering wheel.. sumthing like triptronic... allowing me to get control of the gear shifting.. so, my question, while my gear at the S position which allow me to control the gear shifting with the paddle shift, i have rev it up to 8000rpm without noticing that im at the S position... basically the gear doesnt chage to 2nd gear... it stays at 1st gear up to 80KMh.. will it effect my engine or even my gear box?..

No, if you accidentally stayed in a gear for too long then once the engine revs up enough you will hit the rev limiter which will prevent engine damage. You where close to hitting it at 8000 rpm's, it's set to 8300 as others are saying. I've done it plenty of times in my life, where I will leave an auto in 1 so it won't shift in a parking lot and forget to change it when I leave, then before I know it the engine is bouncing off the rev limiter.

Even with paddle shifters you can't damage your engine, you may be able to manually shift it, but it's still an automatic at heart. Say you are absolutely flying down the highway and you keep hitting the downshift lever, the transmission will not go into first or second gear because it (the ecu) knows that the engine will then be revving too high and damage will be caused.

You got a good point there... so, there is no damage to my engine i suppose.. thanks guys.. it does help me to sleep tonite.. i never drove a brand new car before always the second hand... u know how its feel like when it comes to first brand new car users.. :)
