Angry I think honda cracked my oil pan.

Ok so heres the deal, two weeks ago i took my car into honda to have the tird gear replaced. Since then i started noticing small spots of oil on my driveway but thought nothing of it bc my dads car was leaking oil so i thought it was his car. Yesterday i take my car into honda and they tell me that the oil was from my last oil change and that the oil was just exesses oil on the subframe, but this majes no sence bc i got my oil changed two days before the gears got changed.

So this morning i wake up to a good amount of oil on the ground and take it to them again, less than an hour later they called me telling me my oil pan had a small crack in it, wtf, and they tell me that its 600 to replace it w/ labor. I told them not to touch it i want to see it, i go down there look at it and the mechanic shows me where the crack is. It is on the back part of the oil pan near the bottom of the block right in front on the mount that is down there, and i ask him how this could happen and he has no answer. I inspect the oil pan to see if i could have maybe hit it on something cause im lowered and not a scratch or a scuff on it.

I told them this is bullshit and theres no way i hit anything that im not gonna pay for it to get fixed so i had the service manager come out, and he agreed with me, but the bad part is i have 40,xxx miles on my car and the warranty is up. He said he would see what he could do as far as getting honda to pay for it.

Has anyone else dealt with this problem?

Power train warranty is 5yr/60,000mi dude. You engine oil pan is part of the engine which is part of the power train. You're still under warranty, don't let them push you around.

and warrenty isnt a factor here. your car could have 200k on it....they broke it, they fix it.

Yeah but i cant prove they broke it because they worked on the tranny which on the other side not by the oil pan. But my argument for them is that two days ago they told me i had no leak and then the next day i had a cracked oil pan. So if i took what they told me the first time and just went about my daily buisness i would have eventually blown my motor bc of them not finding the cracked oil pan. And then they would have owed me a new engine.

Kind of a tough situation here. If you can't see any physical damage then you can't prove that they broke it. Also they can't prove that it was damaged by something coming in contact with it while you where driving.

Do you have any pictures? Where is the crack, on the side? On the flat bottom? I have seen people jack up engines by the oil pans with a block of wood or something between the pan and the jack to help get engine mounts in or a transmission out. Cast aluminum is delicate and could crack if too much stress is put on it.

Honda dealerships are not owned buy HONDA.....
So if you buy a sony TV at BestBuy and you have it fixed at BestBuy, they break it, do you say you took it to sony and they broke your TV ??

thats a little different. best buy does not sell exculsivly sony products. cant compare, but nice try.

however, if i bought a BOSE sound system and had it fixed at the BOSE store, and it broke, i would consider that as BOSE breaking my system....

I dont have any pics of the crack but its about an inch long and its on the back part of the pan, right in front of where the bottom ount is. Even the mechanic said he had no explanation for how it cracked since there was no evidence of anything hitting the pan.

It's true what User_name: say. Your local Honda Collision center are most likely not owned by Honda but some 3rd party auto shop hired by Honda.

so then i would request to talk to their honda representative.
somthing that i wouldnt be able to walk into best buy and ask for their sony representative. lol.
honda dealers may not be directly owned by honda, but honda controls what they do....otherwise i wouldnt get calls from coorporate honda asking how my service/sale went.

i cant remember the last time i got a call from sony asking how my purchase at best buy went.

OK are you all ready for this. So 2 oclock comes around and they call me and tell me my car is ready to be picked up so i goto get it. I get there and the mechanic tells me that he just got done test driving it and everything is perfect, great.......... except as soon as i get in my car i go to put it into reverse and nothing. It wouldnt go into any even gears including reverse. Turns out when the mechanic testdrove my car he snapped my shifter cable. Im so sick of this ***** dealership ( Coral springs honda). So now hopefully my car will be ready by tomorrow.

So for everyone in south florida DO NOT got Coral Springs honda, yeah they have beautiful shop but the servise sucks!!!!
