Question Wiper pressure, new ones needed?

So last week i went to my local dealership to get an oil change and a few things checked out, one of which was the wiper blade pressure. My wipers have trouble removing water from the windshield, they always leave a thin film, but its much more obvious on the part of the wiper that's furthest from the attachment points. Basically that means that the top part of my windshield is never clean after i use my wipers.

The technician told me that it was caused by regular wear and tear so it was not covered by the warranty. He told me that i needed to get new wiper arms and that it would cost me well over 100$. I decided to take a look at the wiper assembly and noticed that there are springs that actually maintain the pressure on the windshield. I would assume that by getting new springs, the pressure would be better so i wouldn't have to get new arms.

Anyone encounter this problem? If so, any idea what the part number is for this? Before i did all of this, i changed the rubber inserts for the wipers, it helped for about a week, and then it was back to bad cleaning...

That sucks. I've never had to replace wiper arms on any car I've owned even on a 20 year old car. You should call Honda and really complain about that one!

He blamed the harsh winter and the freezing that might happen between the arm and the windshield that would cause the pressure to diminish. My car is always kept inside my garage in the winter time, so his theory isn't that convincing...

Well you can always call the parts counter at your Honda dealer and they will look up any part you ask them to. Just ask if the springs come separately or if you have to buy the whole arm. I find the parts guys are usually pretty nice and not out to screw you around because they usually deal with mechanics all day.

LOL good point. What a pain though... I hate having a dirty windshield. I'll give em a call tomorrow and hopefully they will be sold separately

You might just need to replace the wiper and not just the insert. I would definitely try that first. The wiper itself also maintains pressure and has a certain spring held shape to it that will fail after a few years.

You can also check with your local NAPA and see if they have an aftermarket wiper incase the Honda one's are too much money. They have them in the US and they are $28 USD per wiper.

I'm sure you could put any 700mm wiper on the car though. As long as the attachment was the same. Most of them are pretty standardized.

Yeah I'm in Montreal tho, I've had no luck at Canadian-Tire finding wipers for the 8th gen... I really don't think that changing the wiper would solve the problem. It wouldn't increase the pressure in anyway... I don't know... I'm sure a spring would be cheaper than a wiper anyway

Replace the wiper inserts first before you buy the whole arm... better yet, take an alcohol swap and clean your current wiper blade to see if it solves the issue. Most of the time it is dirt that sticks to the blade causing uneven pressure.

Agree w/ Duce and habitat.
Also give Rain-X a try. After applying Rain-X on my Mini, I didn't even have to use my wipers for about a month. The rain literally just flies off the windshield. And the Mini windshield has NO slope compared to our 8th gen windshield.

I have changed the inserts! It helped for about a week or so, and then it went back to uneven cleaning. I have Rain-x at home, but I only use it on my other windows because I've herd that it smears when used with the wipers...
