I have bad luck...

So it hasnt even been a full week since I picked up my SI and already I have had two incidents. The first problem occured while driving to the airport. I was traveling on i-85N and the car in front of me drove over a piece of wood and it flew off his rear tire and hit my bumper leaving a nice scratch. Now last night, while driving on i-85N, a rather large piece of truck tire happened to roll into my lane as I was merging on. The timing was just right and it bounced off my bumper and put a nice big dent that spans the length of the front bumper. I couldnt do anything to swerve to miss it as the nearby lanes were filled with cars, so the only thing I could have done was drive off the road and possibly roll my car(i'll take hitting the tire any day). It looks like the bumper took all of the impact and nothing else visually seems to be screwed up. I have a business trip I am taking to NY today, so I wont be able to get this fixed for another week. Any suggestions as to how I should approach this. Should i go to honda and get this done? Any ideas as to how much it will cost to get a new bumper(some other misc pieces as well associated with bumper) installed? At this point, I am just assuming that the bumper is the only thing needing to be replaced. There is also another plastic piece(maybe air deflector) that runs the length of the bumper than needs to be replaced. It attaches to either of the the engine bay, behind the wheels(covers the belts). Sorry for the long post, I am just very frustrated at this point.

Take it to Honda and get a quote. Then call your insurance company. That's what they're there for

Yeah but they will charge a deductable that may or may not be more than the repair and they might raise his rates too. Get a quote first and then look at your options.

Thats what i was thinking because I have a $500 deductable. I am sure damages will come out to more than that though.

If the damages are bout 1K then why dont you upgrade to the HFP kit...
But its all on you though, just thought thats what I would have done if I had to change the bumper.

I really dont care too much for the hpf kit. I just want the car to be back to normal, the cheapest/best way possible.

Unfortunately repairs are expensive...I would take it to a shop and get an estimate and then find out how much the parts would cost you as I'm sure you could fix this your self...that way the ins doesn't go up at least or like someone else said buy the hfp kit

I know how you feel. Two weeks after buying our Civic a tree limb fell on the A-Pilar and hood. $285 for the repair.

How close do you follow cars? One whack is a fluke. Two makes me think you might want to back off a little bit so you have time to react to debris. I know, who asked me, right?

Both times on I-85 there was crazy traffic, so I dont really think that I could have avoided this. The second incident happened at night, the first one during the day.

I am thinking that its not going to be as easy as replacing a bumper. I finally popped the hood to look and see what else I could find. I noticed a few times that when the radiator fan kicked in, I heard a scraping noise. Turns out that the fan blade is scraping against the housing. The radiator hose also seems to have been bent towards the fan, to the point where it touches the hub of the fan. This whole past week has been a bad nightmare for me, both with my car and with my business trip to Albany(thats another angry rant).

It does sound like it was unavoidable, which I guess means you're right about your luck! Sheesh. Hey, maybe you used up all the bad luck first.

check it out, the same thing happened to me and it cracked the hell out of my front bumper. I took it into a shop to get it quoted and they told me it will cost $600 to replace my front bumper. The insurance wanted me to pay the $500 deductible, but i convinced them to cut me a $200 check so im only stuck with $400 to pay. But still.... damn tires, lets make a "tires in the road" protest group, lol.
