i don't wanna seem like a total douche for posting this, but does that crap under the hood actually do anything? i've read from some people it'll fade the clearcoat on the hood, and whatever else they're saying it does...but if i take it off, what'l happen exactly...any help thanks

It deadens sound and keeps the hood temperature down when parked, but I'm not sure about paint life. Can't get much hotter than a black hood in AZ sun.

Why do you want to remove it? It's fairly light and not hurting anything.

I'll take it if you want to get rid of it.

I've wondered the same. I was thinking that it's used to reduce NVH.

ok what it does is that in case of an engine fire the plastic pins melt causing the lining to fall and since it made with a flame retardant material it acts as an exstinguisher of sorts or at least buys you some more time before you end up like a burnt french fry....

i wouldnt remove it you never know .....

It looks alot cleaner, but it also gets strangely dirty, and its hard to clean all the little nooks and crannies.

^ I'd rather clean nooks and crannies than that stupid black mat, though.
