Seatbelt not safe.....

I am having a problem with my seatbelt engaging a lock position when it really shouldn't. When stopping to exit, just taking foot off the gas, not even braking, I move forward to look for oncoming traffic, and the seatbelt restricts me from doing so. It's restrictive to the point of being dangerous because I am not getting full visibility to see oncoming traffic from the huge rear pillar. Does anyone else have this issue, and maybe have a solution to get it to move?

I am also noticing an annoying noise from the area the seatbelt comes out of when driving over bumps.....not loud, but right next to my ear so I hear it. Thanks in advance to any replies.

Sounds like you need to visit your dealership.

I had the same problem with my Civic before I sold it. The seatbelt tensioner is just way too sensitive. The dealer said it was completely normal.

It's normal. lipped this from Honda's website.

Seat Belt with Pretensioners

An automatic seat-belt tensioning system helps hold occupants securely in a collision. The system is triggered by the same sensors that deploy the airbags.

ah i was going to post a thread just like this because its pissing me off. i had an acura rsx before my si and if they put the same mechanism in the si it would be much better. the one in my rsx was just as sensitive, but if u tugged on the belt twice gently with your hand it would "unlock." i realized thats not the case in the si and it bugs me.

I believe it also tightens up when you are braking.

unless you make a very QUICK movement, it shouldn't lock up on you.

relax, take it easy, u'll be fine

mine locks up when i take shapr turn sfor teh fun of it. like smooth residential streets, i admire teh Si's handleing. and then i notice i'm locked up, i guess teh seat belt holds me in teh seat and the seats cushions hold me from moving side to side. but then i have a problem getting it to unlock.

I have had a similar locking problem with other cars. Usually running my hand under the torso belt, pulling it forward, would release it. It became a pretty habitual move that takes very little time. Doesn't work on the Si. So I figured out what does.

Grab the waistbelt and tug right then left (or was it left then right...yeesh.) Again, it becomes a pretty habitual movement and might allow someone to look around that big @$$ column and see the car coming at them.

Add me to that list. They need to de-sensitise that thing a tad.

I don't mind that my seatbelt locks up so easily (It often holds me in place while cornering hard) I just wish it would let go of me easier......

Happens to me too. Same story: If you lean forward to fast the seatbelt will lock. Then I tard out for a few seconds trying to get it to release.

My passenger belt will lock w/ the car just started or off when you're trying to put the damn belt on. I also have the issue where I need to check my blind spot sometimes. I think if I ever get in an accident due to that, I'm gonna get a lawyer and Honda's gonna lose some money. With others having this issue as well, I'm sure it could be done.

This seatbelt issue has been bugging me ever since I got my Si in 06. At first I used to think it was nice since it helped hold me in place. Then it started getting annoying at exit ramps under what I consider to be light braking. It really sucks since I can't move around to check my blindspots. Never had this problem before with other cars I've driven before.

Many things on this car are too sensitive in my opinion. The ABS system kicks in over slightly bumpy roads. The seat belts lock up under braking situations which don't require it.

that sounds like you're not stopping when you're supposed to and rather disobey the law by not yielding and cutting people over. Exit turns will alwayys have a stop sign or yield sign once it merges onto a local road.
