Couple questions.

1) Is transmission covered under the 50k powertrain warranty, or is it the 36k? I'm nearing 36k and am at 33k right now.

2) My 3rd has never popped out of gear after getting the syncro replaced, but it keeps getting more notchy--has anybody else who's had the 3rd gear syncro replaced going back?

And it sucks that it doesn't cover second gear =(

I wanted to ask, what happens if you DO NOT fix this 3rd gear synco problem?. Are there any long term effects?. My 3rd gear problem isn't bad. It just sometimes doesn't go all the way in the first time....but this is SERIOUSLY rare at best. I don't have these hardcore 3rd gear problems like most others have.....I don't really care if I fix it, as long as it doesn't get any worse. Thats why I'd like to know if it will be a bad thing to NOT fix the problem 3rd gear issue. I'll just live with it.

why not fix it... i mean it cannot get any better, its just gonna wear down and get worse. Your gonna play around and wait for warranty to expire and then you will be paying out of your pocket

Even though I still think everyone of these cars has a bad syncro for third...
quick question. is honda just saying all of 06 and 07 are affected just to be safe? because there are other members, such as myself, who have 06/07 Si's (i have an 07 with 17k miles on it) and dont have any issues whatsoever.

not really, I have a while longer to make my decision. but like i said, my 3rd gear problem isn't that bad. it's pretty much 98% problem free. i'll play it by ear for now. I'm not going to mess with this 3rd gear if it ain't really broken.

To be honest, your guess is as good as mine. I suspect the part has never been changed in any of the iterations it has been in (the RSX-S, the Accord 6MT, etc) until recently (noted by the 2008 VIN range).

I suspect that the faulty syncro is present on all 2006-2007 (and some 2008) Si models. Why some of us have problems and others don't is utterly beyond me. There are so many potential reasons with no definitive answers.

My feeling on it is this: I think Honda started manufacturing the 2008 Si models (after the TSB's VIN range) with the new parts. This effectively tells me they know the part is faulty. I think that right there warrants ALL 2006+ transmissions being ripped apart, whether its problematic or not. They've admit, through action, that there is a fauly syncro in 3 and 4 (gears).

The process has not, and I doubt will, change. You have to go to the dealer, get them to replicate it (easier said than done, it took me almost 20 visits and much frustration), and then they will take care of it.

yea i agree. i've shifted different ways and at different rpms thru all my gears, slow or fast, and never grinds.

i hope the people with the issues though get them fixed via the tsb.

also special ringpop, for you does it grind shifting into third fast or slow or both?

20 visits! How did you finally make them realize the truth? Can you tell us what happened in your mult-visit adventure? i.e. did you leave the car there, take a drive with the tech etc?

thanks.

25k on mine without any problems, and I'm not alone. My guess is that the original parts are somewhat prone to failure, whether that be from driving styles, slight variations in production tolerances, or something else entirely. A significant number of transmissions are affected, and I'm happy Honda has a solution. BTW, the parts have apparently been in service with late production cars, and I haven't read of any problems with them.

It would be in everyone's best interest to set aside plans for vengeance and work with your service department to get your car fixed. The TSB is dated April 12th, so don't be surprised or pissed that your service manager isn't familiar with it. You finally have what you need to get the work done. Print the TSB, talk with them in person, and have them drive your car with you. Drive for them if that's what it takes to replicate the problem.

Or just do what I did: leave the car overnight. It'll manifest in the morning when it's cold, undoubtedly.

One question has been ignored. Maybe someone can share some insight...

For those who had the MTF replaced under warranty if they were to show the service people the receipt from having the MTF fluid replaced would that be all the dealer would need to actually do the TSB for changing the gearset??

I went to the dealership last week to get it checked out.. I notice this problem over a year ago. I got it checked out atleast 4 times. I went in last week and they said "they can not duplicate the problem"...So what am I suppose to tell them? How do I tell those biatches to fix it..They get me so frustrated.
