No Soup For Me

Long time lurker, first time poster.

07 GG SI Sedan #14972

I've only put 3900 miles on the car since September and it was time for the first 3750 mile servicing.

Took it to Huntington Honda with the request that they look at 3rd gear, trying to use the wording of the TSB to hopefully help them in their search.

I received a call from a service manager saying they could not duplicate the problem, and I alluded to the TSB saying that what is happening to me is listed exactly what is going on in the TSB.

I have to punch through a wall into 3rd about 75% of the time, and while it will pop out of 3rd, it only does it when it's cold, and pretty rarely (engine and weather.)

They seemed to latch on to that, requiring the car to be cold and they would check again. Also I could go set up an appointment with someone to show them what is going on, and I don't know how to force it to not work.

Sounds like the same issues that people were having to deal with last year.

I noticed at at least one other member was successful in getting their set changed from Huntington Honda, so I guess that dealer is 1 for 2 now.

I'm also having the popping noise in the front struts when i hit a good bump, but I figured I could save that for next time.

The service managers there seem very nice and understanding... no complaints there.

It ain't a Lexus but come on....

So it would appear that I AM getting my car back today. I'll report my results since I believe I'm the first at this dealership to have it done.

Where are you getting it done? I'm looking forward to your report. I'm in the OC area and need to find a reputable place to fix mine.

So I got my car back today. Shifting feels smoother, tho it feels like 2nd doesn't go in as far as it use to. I thinking I need to break it in some more. 3rd gear feels better and didnt pop out at all. I'll know more after I drive it for a day or two.

Also... Norm Reeves in Huntington Beach is where I got it done at.

Hey - first time poster here as well - been reading this thread quite heavily. I live in Northern Virginia and took my 07 Si into Fairfax Honda (Fairfax, VA) to request them to look at the 3rd Gear issue. I had to drop off the car for a day - as I had to go to work still. They found the issue, ordered the parts, and I got my car back that night.

This is awesome! I got the feeling that some people on here had some issues with dealerships agreeing to fix the problem. I'm happy to say that I had a pleasant experience there.

The only problem - parts for this TSB are on backorder for 3 months... I'll update again when the parts arrive and are installed.

I went to Honda Cars of Corona a couple of times because of my 3rd gear issue. I went last week for an oil change and the rep told me that a TSB came out for 3rd gear (I acted suprised lol) All parts came in except for the 3rd gear itself. I have 1 of the 685 coming from Japan and it is supposebly coming in this week. Lets see how it goes.

it's been about a month and my 3rd gear parts are still not in. I think I'm going to call my dealer tomorrow.

Well so much for mine getting done tomorrow. My advisor just called and they checked my parts and im still missing one part. They are also missing a part for someones car that is now torn apart sitting on the lift. He did say that the gear set they pulled out of this persons car had chipped teeth. So, back to waiting for me but atleast im not out of my car like the other person.(this is first team honda btw)

got my 3rd gear fixed

hi there fellow civicer. i have brought my car in to the dealer about 3 time regarding the 3rd gear but since i got my car in 06 and all of the attempts they say that they could not duplicate the problem. so i just gave up with the dealer and waited till they honda accept that the civics have a problem. So when the tb came out i promptly printed out the tb so the dearler would not lie and tell me they looked on the computer and saw nothing. So when i brought it in into the rock honda of fontana, CA on may 16,2008 and showed them the printout the service guy just sayed ok. i was shocked after all the months of fighting with them they were going to fix it. It took them about a month to get all of the parts in and i just got my car back yesterday. The gears are way better now 3rd gear feels really smooth there is no wall or popping out. it feels like the rest of the gears. i love it now.

My 3rd gear has been grinding since about 1000 miles. A few weeks ago it locked me out. Its going on 2.5 months and my Honda service department is still waiting on the "bolts" to come in.
