Well today the dealership called. The woman cut me an attitude right from the get-go and I could tell that it was not going to be good news. Instead of apologizing for screwing up my car the dealership is now claiming that my aluminum shifter bushings are responsible for the transmission problems. They stated that they are going to look into voiding my warranty if I ever bring the car back for transmission problems.

The bushings were on the first time I took in the car and they said nothing. I asked the guy what the bushings could possibly do to cause the problem. He stated since they were aftermarket that he could void my warranty. I threatened him with a lawsuit and a call to Honda of North America. He satated that he will do the fix but if I bring it back they will void my warranty. I am a college student who dumps every penny that I get into paying for this car. The car had 11,000 miles and the shifter bushings have been on since two days after I got the car. I am furious. I am planning my next move. Any suggestions? I really need some help guys!

I am debating selling the car when I get it back because I can not afford this stuff out of pocket. If they void my warranty I will not be able to afford this money pit.
dude i dont know what to tell you, all i can say is good luck bro we all fweel ur pain i was in college kid myself and i know how u feel, just try and stick it out and change that bushing, if u didnt throw it away or tell then it was on there since u got the car. nad try and play it off, dealerships are like poker it all depends on ur luck and some buffing.

Aftermarket mods and Honda warranty / Will this void my warranty?

Excerpt:
The official Warranty and Magnuson Moss Act thread.

No aftermarket part or accessory that is properly installed on your vehicle will entirely void your original vehicle manufacturers warranty.
It is the dealership's responsibility to prove that your modification directly caused or affected the failure you are trying to resolve.

I don't really see how they could prove that an aluminum shift bushing could cause your problem unless it was improperly installed or somehow damaged...

They prolly damaged it themelves when they did the third gear fix just so they could use it against you later. (yes i think ALOT of dealership shops/mechanics are shady that way)

Yeah, this is completely ludicrous.

Here it goes... I took my car in this morning to complaint about the problems that I mentioned earlier. The service tech that "fixed" my car drove it again and said that he didn't hear any noise... that there wasn't any grinding... that I need to stop focusing on problems that "might" be there... blah blah blah. He did fix my revers lights and managed to say "sorry about that" though... So I left and drove over to Diamond Honda to see what they thought and they noticed that something was definitely wrong but said that they couldn't do anything for me because that would be like them fixing somebody else's mistake. I went back to my original dealer (Hardin Honda) and had some other technician drive my car. He said that the noise I was hearing was coming from the grommet that I'm using to run the power cable to my amp... that it was popped off (by them). When the first technician removed the battery to perform the fix he said that he may have yanked on the cable thus causing the grommet to pop off. So they said that they'll try to fix it. This new tech was able to duplicate the grinding problem though and I have to take my car back in tomorrow so that they can check it out again. I hate this!!!

Thats what im MF sayin. Fool wasted like 12 dollars worth of gas. I can just imagine some punk ass tech all day.

I know how they are there at Pacific Honda because my cousin was a tech there back in the day. All he told me was that he was the fastest in the Ep3

My car is still at the dealership, been there for 1 1/2 days now, tomorrow is gonna be day 2. I'm not too worried about it, I know it's in good hands since I really trust my service manager. Told him I'd like his team to check out the other gears/syncros, my clutch, and also tighten my hand brake lol. I hope I get it back tomorrow b/c I have a lot of things I'd like to do to my car after this fix.

i have an extra number in my vin, its a 1 right in the middle in between the 5 and the 8, where the period is, and im confused how to tell if im in the range or not.. if you ignore that 1 in the middle of the vin, my number is about 3000 past the cutoff, so does this mean i cant have the 3rd problem?

That period signifies the check digit. It can be a 1-9.

If your last 6 numbers are within the range that is the range for the affected cars. What is the build date on the door jamb of the drivers side door?

Dealership has had my car since Thursday, it won't be done until Tuesday

Apparently my service manager discovered that not only does my 3rd gear need to be replaced but so does my 4th gear. Somehow it got chipped even though it shifts into 4th smoothly and I never had a problem with the 4th gear...maybe it's because of the 3rd gear who knows. They had to order a new gear so it's gonna take a few more days. Going crazy without my car, this loaner is really boring to drive lol, and I have a bunch of new things waiting to be modded onto my car lol...

Update 05/04/08.

So far so good. Shifting is still feeling great. I'm sorry to hear that many people are still getting a hard time from their honda dealerships. I hope things turn out better for my fellow Si owners.

Yeah my bad guys, I'm not being whiney and ungrateful about it. I know I'm lucky to get my car fix without being given any hassle about it. Like many of you, I've been waiting for a long time for this too...had this problem just a week after I got my car almost 1 1/2 years ago. My patience is so worn out even though it's finally getting fixed, I'm anxious to see how it's improved...hopefully I won't have a dud-fix. And I've been holding off on little mods like shifter cable bushings, base bushings and short shifter, just so I can't be blamed.

After I get my car back and everything is fine for a week or two, I'll deem that it's safe to start playing with the shifting upgrades.

The parts took a few weeks to come in for me too, everyone who owns a 06 - 08 Civic SI and other Hondas that the TSB includes is jumping to get theirs fixed causing a lot of demand and shortage in the parts I guess.

Imagine how it feels to have had the fix done with the new parts, and then have it pop out a mile away from the dealership...

Two years of this shit, and the fix worked for less than three blocks.

Keep trying to get it fixed man...won't your car be considered a lemon after 2 or 3 attempts to fix it? I believe it says something about that on one of the booklets included in that packet of manuals our cars come with.

I mean if it grinds that much, I'm sure it grinds on the service technicians too? If they test drive it again and it happens again, they'll be required to fix it again b/c of the TSB for the problem. Now that they already fixed it once, they know there's new parts in there. And the fact that it's still screwed up even with the new parts, it can't be assumed to be your fault anymore at this point since they fixed it onc
