See my post above about why they have to replicate the problem. It's because they have to look at it as though Honda is the customer, as they're the one footing the bill. Would you want lengthy, difficult repair work and the high costs associated with it for a problem that you couldn't prove existed, just because someone told you 'I think it might be this?' Neither does Honda.

Luckily for me, they didnt have to replicate it. I had been complaining about it since I got the car and Honda changed the MTF when I got my last oil change. They even put in the Royal Purple I bought and some magnetic drain plugs. :)

Just got my car back. Apparently one of the technicians talked to the service person that I talked to and said that there isn't any point in changing my fluid and told the guy to go ahead and order the parts for the TSB.

Looks like I'm going to be joining the "My 3rd gear doesn't suck anymore" club once the parts come in.

After a few hours of having my car back from the dealership I am really disappointed. When I first got in the car I noticed that the clutch no longer felt smooth... instead it felt bumpy going in and out. Second, shifting into first gear now gets stuck at times the way that third gear did. Third, after a few minutes of driving I noticed a hissing type noise coming from the clutch/transmission area which I never heard before the third gear fix. Fourth, when I turn left and begin to take off I hear and feel a grinding noise which I've never noticed before either. Fifth, my revers lights no longer work! What kind of sh*t is that?! I deeply regret taking my car in for this stupid ass fix! It wasn't even that big of a deal for me because I learned to catch it time and double clutch if I had to. I only decided to get the fix because it grinded twice on the service advisor when he drove it. I'm definitely taking my car back to the dealership first thing in the morning to get this taken care of.

^^^ Wow that sucks, good luck man.

I just dropped my car off at the dealership for the fix. I'm kind of nervous b/c the service manager that I'm cool with isn't there today to oversee the repair, but hopefully he'll be there tomorrow when they're still working on it. They said it would take one full day and up until tomorrow, so they gave me a rental car from Enterprise.

Anyways, I made sure that they knew that I'm already running the updated Honda MTF so that they put the same MTF back in there (the MTF on the TSB is the same, just wanted to be clear on it with them). Also, along with the 3rd gear/syncro - I asked them to check out the other gears and syncros for wear and damage in case they need replacement too. I also asked them to inspect my clutch. I hope they don't screw up anything when they work on my car because some of the other members feedback on this fix makes me nervous...

I should be getting my car back tomorrow or Saturday, I'll post updates again then.

p.s.
My rental car is an automatic 2006 ASM Accord EX sedan. I like the way it drives - very comfortable, but it sure isn't as fun as my FG2

I just had my 3rd gear synchro replaced by the dealer under this TSB. So far so good after 2 days of driving. I can sense a very slight notchiness shifting to 3rd after a cold start. Other than that, shifting to 3rd is like shifting to all the other gears, buttery smooth.

You're actually taking quite a big risk doing this fix. There are a lot of things that can go wrong when you drop the transmission and tinker with the innards. If the Honda dealer's service department is overbooked with work or you have an inexperience mechanic working on the transmission, it could be a disaster.

Also, once the the fix is performed, you pretty much have a different transmission. The 3rd gear synchro will require some break-in time and the transmission could feel different overall.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm concerned about - the mechanics. The service manager I always work with is cool and knows what he's doing, but some of the mechanics that I see working there are so young and kind of got that shady look to them. I guess I shouldn't judge a book by its cover, from my experience just about every mechanic kind of has a shady vibe to him haha. Also, the dealership I go to is always busy too, hopefully that won't make my repairs rushed and sloppy. If it turns out to be a disaster I would just bring it right back and have them do it again and do it right.

Ah hell. Just got a call from the dealership. They had to order the parts, and of course they are on backorder. Gonna have to wait till June before they'll get them in. 3rd gear is teh suck!

Angry Bad Turns to Worse

As you may or may not know I had the 3rd gear "fix" done recently to my 07 Si Sedan. Everything felt great until one day on the highway when my shifter went slack and I could not engage several gears or reverse. The car was towed back to the dealership. Well today the dealership called. The woman cut me an attitude right from the get-go and I could tell that it was not going to be good news. Instead of apologizing for screwing up my car the dealership is now claiming that my aluminum shifter bushings are responsible for the transmission problems. They stated that they are going to look into voiding my warranty if I ever bring the car back for transmission problems.

The bushings were on the first time I took in the car and they said nothing. I asked the guy what the bushings could possibly do to cause the problem. He stated since they were aftermarket that he could void my warranty. I threatened him with a lawsuit and a call to Honda of North America. He stated that he will do the fix but if I bring it back they will void my warranty. I am a college student who dumps every penny that I get into paying for this car. The car had 11,000 miles and the shifter bushings have been on since two days after I got the car. I am furious. I am planning my next move. Any suggestions? I really need some help guys!

I am debating selling the car when I get it back because I can not afford this stuff out of pocket. If they void my warranty I will not be able to afford this money pit.
