My car has been in the shop for two days now, and I'll have it back tomorrow.

It was the first one Walser Honda did, so they had a specialist (whose done it before, curious) come in to do it and show the other techs. He found that the syncros were just torn to hell (sad because I drive like a grandma).

I also had new door panels ordered because I was sick and tired of the creaking and groaning sounds they made when I even touched them. The passenger one would actually separate from the clip. They ordered them and got them in today. The driver's side one went on without concern, but the passenger side one had a broken clip....right out of the box, so I have to wait another day.

Which is okay by me, because I appreciate all the work they do and continue to do for me.

Would they still do the SB overhaul if the mileage is over 30k?

Alright, so just got off the phone with the dealership... they said they drove it several times here and there to try to get it to do what it does and they said they couldn't get it to do it. I'm like no duh...it happens randomly. So since they couldn't get it to do it when they drove it all they did was replace the tranny fluid.

They are replacing mines and it's currently at 33k... and JenSi, i'm really sorry that they're not fixing it for you... my dealer has always been helpful and even gave me a free clutch replacement job due to the fact that i learned on my car and didn't know how to drive it at the time... i went to the dealership with a local member with an 07 si 4dr and they're replacing both of ours here in houston... good luck to you

parts are on backorder for two weeks but they're also replacing my 2nd gear synchro because i told them that it grinds when i try to shift at high rpms..

I even gave them the TSB.

Why not go to another dealer?

Did you let them keep it overnight? That's what I had to do. When they didn't feel it the second morning when it was cold, I said keep it another night.

Of course... not everyone can live without the car for a couple days.

Just got mie back, the trans is fixed. Took a pic of the bad syncro's, the teeth are scuffed to one side. The car pulled to the left when I got it back, made the tech drive it and check the tires and alignment. This has happened before and it was air pressure. They said they rotated the tires back and it stopped, but I marked the tires with chalk (gotta be carefull). Anyways, I'll look at the pic later and see if you can see the damage. Only put a couple miles on it, more later.

Some people here said they had the clutch replaced as well. What would this bad synchro do to the clutch to warrant a free replacement? I would definitely like to run the same excuse by my dealer to see if I can get one as well.

Also, for this work to be done, the transmission fluid needs to be drained first right? They're going to be flushing my Amsoil for their stuff if that's the case.

Usually nothing, depends on how you drive.

Im going in for the Second time on Tuesday. This time im bringing that TSB. Wish me luck. My tranny has grinded and popped out before, but only a couple times. At least 3 times a day i get a hard notchy zig zag feeling in 3rd gear. First time i went in they couldnt "replicate" the problem.

They had no interest in keeping my car over night.. When I dropped it off today they said "we will get you squared away today, we may not have the exact parts for it, but no matter what we will get you squared away."
Thats what I'm dealing with. I didn't say anything to them cuz I wanted to see what they meant by "squared away".. well I guess I got my answer. Of course I got no calls like they said.. I had to call them. Then they said pick it up after 5... which no service people are there at that time. Here is what my service order says...
"Customer states vehicle has trouble going into gear 3rd & 4th (which I also told them it slides out and grinds..but they forgot that) Check & advise inspected vehicle and test drove. Replaced manual trans. fluid as per Honda. Re-drove and was unable to duplicate customer's concern. If problem re-occurs vehicle will need brought back in for further diagnosis and possible 3rd gear set replacement per TSB 08-020."
All they did was drive it...which tells me by the 'further diagnosis'. On the phone he said they drove it and drove it..never once spoke of looking at it. They aren't concerned with finding the problem, they just wanna quick fix. They followed the first fix of the TSB instead of further looking into it. I don't think they even know what they are looking at! I talk like this becuz this isn't the first problem I've had with this dealership.. before they got bought out they were Sunnyside. I had a CRV.. Bad break problems & noises. Took it in... they were supposed to have replaced the roters & brakes. Paid over $300 for what they supposedly did. Got it home, still making the noise. My brother looks at it.. Roters and brakes were never replaced. He took it in and got in a huge fight with them. They fixed it finally! Then they fired the head mechanic guy. Got bought out from Victory.. seemed better. Guess I was wrong. It's gonna be a process I can tell..keep takin it in & complain bout it till they do what they should... or take a guy in with me & let them deal with him.. Or find a dealership who will honor what they are supposed to do. All of which is a huge inconvience.

Hey whats up everyone, my brother just talked to a guy that he knows at one of the local honda dealerships and he told him to call back in a few days that he is about to do this on someones si. So hopefully in a couple of days he will talk to him again and i will be able to have mine done. Just though i'd join the fun.

I just got my car back tonight. They started work on Wed, and finished up tonight. Ambient temp on drive home about 75 degrees F. Car was warm when I got it, because tech just got back from test run. Total miles put on car from the time I left it in their hands: 48
First impressions: Maybe it was because I hadn't driven the car in 3 days, but the clutch felt "shorter." It didn't feel like my leg had to extend as far to fully engage to the floor. It also felt "softer." Less resistance.
Gears 1,2,4,5,and 6 all felt the same, but I can definitely feel a difference in 3. I've only put 10 miles on tonight, but there doesn't seem to be the hesitation on downshift from 4 that I was accustomed to. If anyone cares, I'll post my 2nd impressions after I hit rush hour tomorrow. :)

Well maybe the MTF will be sufficient to patch the symptoms for awhile. They just picked the easier of the two likely fixes. If it doesn't improve, I'd recommend strongly suggesting that they keep it overnight, as the problem is exacerbated by cold starts- at least it was in my case. If they won't keep it overnight, ask your brother to get involved again. I've always found that a respectful but firm approach works best with service techs, so that they can see that you are serious, not wasting their time, and know what you're talking about.
