just got off the phone with my honda dealer. Since its not a recall i can't really do anything til I seriously have this problem. I thin i had it once or it could have been my stupidity of letting off the clutch to soon lol. but my car falls into the VIN range. according to their senior tech rep my car was when they were transitioning at the factory to fix the problem so I may have been lucky and got one of the fixed ones. If I have this problem in the future they say to just bring it in and it will be covered under my warrenty. good thin none of my near future plans have anything to do with the tranny. The only thin gi can think that may void it is when i finnally turbo this sucker. then they may be able to say that caused my 3rd gear to have problems lol. good luck to all.

NOPE factory warranty = free loaner! When you buy your car your sales advisor should of covered this. Free loaner when it is warranty work. Call Honda of America and complain!!! Extended warranty does not give you a free loaner but is warranty.

Took my car into Zimbrick of Madison. When I drove out of my parking garage it popped out of 3rd gear so I got excited. Got there, and the service manager Tom personally drove my car with me in it. Unfortunately it didn't pop out or grind or anything. I told him it doesn't do it when the car warms up. I guess I'll try again this winter or if it gets worse

Must have been a lazy agent. They were the ones that told me that the TSB was just about to come out, about 2wks ago.

Personally, I don't think asking for a flaw-free transmission on a brand new car is too much to ask, but that's just my world.

I knew to good to be true! I took my care in a couple days ago and the service manager said that he would order the parts for me and call me when it gets in. But then I get a phone call from him saying that he called honda tech line to verify some suff and now they said that they needed to be able to replicate the problem. So I drop off my car overnight. Long story short, they can’t replicate it. Back to square one. This sucks!!!

You should be good. This would be covered under the powertrain warranty which is 5yr 60K

jesus!! what a PITA!! i took my car in all day weds to honda for 3rd gear problem.. they found nothing. so i took it back again today so the district manager of honda could look at it and make a decision on whether to fix it or not.. they still find NOTHING! omg.. so im getting frustrated.. i go take it for a test drive with the tech who worked on it.. and of course.. its acting perfectly fine.. but anyways.. the techs and service advisors at penske honda were effing awesome!! they said they knew exactly what i was talking about and were going to do whatever it took to get it fixed for me. so they are ordering the parts and should have them in in a couple days and ill be dropping off my car to get fixed finally!

day 2 after the fix. all is well so far. we will see after i put some more miles or bout 2 months later. my dealership never was able to replicate the problem with 3rd. bt they still took care of me. the thing all of you need to remember is theres a big list of parts to be ordered. i got my order in a few min after the tsb came out. so my parts came in tue. as for it taking a few days i dnt know about that. i droppd mine off at 730am, and picked it up at 445 and it was all done and ready and they already did the test drive and everything. and i got a loaner even tho they didnt have to give me one. i just know lots of people at the dealership.

Update it's almost been a week, i dropped my car off for them to fix it after showing them the TSB paper i printed and they honored it because my warranty is still legit. So the next day the repair tech gives me a call and tells me to come in and reproduce the
3rd gear grind, notchyness, hard to shift in, and or 3rd gear popping out. SO i come in and they ask me to do a road test and I did it for them and showed them. I know many SI owners are having similar problems but not all the same. However mine is that when i come to a full stop, and go through 1st to 2nd and then to third ITS notchy. It has occasional grinds probably twice a week and out of know where a 3rd gear pop! So
MAKE sure you SHOW THEM THE TSB PAPER print it out! Do the ROAD test and then they will repair it..

2 Main people you might have to go through

1st SERVICE ADVISOR
2nd Repair Tech (If they cant reproduce the 3rd gear problem!)

NOTE if you have warranty they will also cover your rent-a-car

However you might have to pay a $50.00 refundable deposit.

I did unfortunately but its ok! I'll get it back.

NOTE #2

EVEN IF YOU CANT RE-DUPLICATE IT, TELL THEM IT DOESNT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT IT GETS WORSE, YOU JUST HAVE TO DRIVE IT LIKE YOU NORMALLY DO, IT DOESNT HAPPEN IN A 3- 10 MIN TEST DRIVE.

Take your car in the morning before work or school, so you can put a lil pressure on them.

This is slightly innaccurate. The Factory powertrain warranty varies state to state, but in most cases they limit their liability to provide a loaner vehicle if the repair is going to take longer than ~3 days.

If you have a decent dealer they will give you a loaner no matter what. You spent ~$20k at their dealership, I'd expect to be taken care of. If I wasn't I'd let their management know and promptly take my business elsewhere. There are many dealerships that would love to have your business, whether its for sales or service.

I love how after I got my car back from the dealer since they "couldn't replicate the problem" all my audio settings were f'd with (Like sub and bass cranked to full and my radio stations all changed) Not that I'm super pissed but it is kinda annoying.
