yay, my '08 fa5 falls in the range. hopefully, it won't need the fix, though. i'm at 5k and haven't had any issues yet. there was a day where i thought i had shifted to third (felt like it engaged) and then pressed on the accelerator and realized i wasn't in gear. it was strange, though, cuz i heard a quiet 'thunk' noise and then realized i wasn't in gear. is that what popping out of gear is like?

You'll almost certainly have to wait for the new 3rd gear set to be ordered and delivered.

There's a bunch of bolts, nuts, o-rings, oil seals, set ring, pin, and washers as well.

Approximately nine hours labor, including alignment.
This is at least a whole day job if you schedule your appointment for first thing.

Hallelujah!

Thanx Mr. Bill

I made another appointment Friday for them to take another look at my transmission. When I made the appointment this hadn't been posted. I was planning on it just being a waste of time. That has all changed now! Booyah!

When I called, I had to specifically tell the service department about the TSB #. Then he could look it up. For whatever reason, he was looking for recalls rather than TSB's (though I specifically told him what I was looking at).

Well time to head back to my dealer so they can try to "duplicate" my concern!

Many dealers need not fully "replicate" an issue to repair it. It's kind of hard to replicate a cold-start unless they keep it overnight.

Not necessarily. Lovely of Honda, but it's up to them. They may do it in "good faith," but I wouldn't count on it unless they can REALLY feel/see it.

At least thats what the bulletin says.

I'm so happy about this. I just called my dealership and they found it. They said, "It's scary how much faster you guys online seem to get this stuff than we do..."

I was talking to Jeremy (I VTEC Do You?) and I was mentioning something I called months ago:

Not all 2008 VIN numbers are affected. This tells me Honda started replacing the old parts with the new parts on the assembly line. That, right there, tells me that every single Si model between 2006 and 2008 (pre switch) needs to be overhauled, if it is serious enough to warrant changing the parts at the factory.

Any first year law student worth a grain of salt could argue that in court. Good luck to all of you who haven't been able to get your concerns duplicated. Now, at least, they might take you a bit serious.

Still, I totally called it being a TSB, not a recall, even though I seriously think a recall is warranted.
