Too Much Oil???? :(

Yesterday i pulled the dip stick on my 2 week old 08 civic SI and my oil was below the low mark on the dipstick. So i put 2 quartz of 5W-30 in and measured again and realized i had put to much in. I took it to my Honda Dealership and had the Service Manager look at it and he said i am maybe a quarter of a quart to a half quart over the full mark and that it wasn't really that big of a deal and that some of the oil would burn and that it wont cause any harm to my engine. IS THIS TRUE????

ok cool because i thought i had heard that having too much oil can mess up the compression of your engine.

I believe that is also true too, but then again your engine is still new so it should be fine. There's just soo much variables to everything.

I have always been told that overfilling is just as bad as underfilling. Unfortunatley honda manages to overfill mine everytime they change it. I'm not sure how they do it, but it's always at least a eighth of an inch above the full mark. I made them change it again one time. Lately I've just given up. My warranty is almost up, so I will begin changing it myself.

Our cars take 4.5 quarts, how in the hell can you get this wrong? We have dipsticks and theres even markings on the oil quart bottles!! this simply amazes me.

Being an 1/8 of an inch over the full mark is not a problem. Having half an inch above is getting dangerous, you can wreck things.

A half quart over is actually too much. A full quart over can cause seals to blow out, and cause oil to foam up in the pan by the crank resulting in starvation.

Just unscrew the drain plug a bit ans let teh oil drip out slowly to the correct level.

You're gonna probably burn some of that oil up anyway so don't worry about it, most likely you're still breaking it in and you will burn more oil during the break in period. I've changed my oil 3 times since I had my car, and I've added at least a quart every 5k miles

by having too much, these following problems can happen

the oil will foam/bubble up and will not allow the oil to do what its suppose to

it is claimed that too much oil can lead to catylic damage....

not to be an ass, but why would you put 2 quarts in and not check after the first quart?
