Our transmission woes are over, TSB for Honda transmissions

Sooo! I was browsing around the net for anyone else that was having various problems with SIs and I stumbled upon 8thcivic.com and its wonderful TSB page. After taking my civic immediately in to the dealer to get about 8 TSBs performed on my car I said also I would like to complain about the transmissions there is no TSB for it and I know there is an Issue with 2nd and 3rd. I basically laid it down on them and my service lady was like Hmmm I have had this complained about this before ... Let me do some research. She called me today and said I found out what’s going on with the Transmission Honda has put out a post about it and there should be a TSB out within 3 weeks and that she will call me when it posts on the Honda service network. She said that the TSB entails changing our damaged or "bad" syncros/gears if there is any and performing a transmission flush and using a new different transmission fluid that they are going to specify within the TSB.

Now my service lady hasn’t tried to lie or pulled anything over on me before so I’m really hoping this is true.

So the question is to all you advanced gear heads out there would performing the swap that I just describe possibly remedy and fix this transmission problems that we are having?

*updated*
I just called my lady at Honda and I referenced the Honda news bulletin Jan 2007 and Jan 2006 and she said they will be swapping out the syncros as well as a full transmission fluid flush and replace for the "New" Honda MTF

Nice first post. Unfortuately, this coming TSB is pretty common knowledge by now. Gotta get up pretty early to beat SpecialRingpop on any 3rd gear updates.

I was checking Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) and saw a TSB for "ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:BELTS AND ASSOCIATED PULLEYS" (Service Bulletin #120107). Was this one of the TSB you had done on your car? I saw that it is the only one they had for the 2008 model.

Actually, I gotta give Vince and a few others early credit for this one. Had it not been for them, I wouldn't have known to pressure my dealers into looking up on their computers for it, and I'd be in the same boat I have been for a long time.

Still, it's good to know that more people are hearing about this fix from their dealerships. There really must be a fix coming if more than just my dealership and a few others are hearing about it.

Eh, I agree, but you gotta admit, after having problems for so long, and having Honda vehemently deny it, you just wanna scream it from the rooftops. I understand why we post about it so much.

If they cannot duplicate the problem, they will not fix it. A TSB doesn't do much. If they couldn't duplicate the problem before the TSB it doesnt mean they will be able to with one.

Three weeks.... Just in time for the weather to warm up. And since the cold weather makes this problem 10 times worse, I imagine a lot of us will be hearing "can't replicate, can't replicate, can't replicate."
I've been cautiously optimistic about this so-called TSB up to this point. Let's not forget that people such as Vince were told the fix would be out early February... now we're being told the end of March/early April. How many times are they going to "delay" the fix? I'm beginning to think we're just getting lip service from HoA just to keep their angry 6MT customers from getting the problem on the news again.

This kind of thing could never be a recall, be reasonable people. I understand a lot of you are frustrated and this is a very shitty problems and the delays are shittier.

However, if they did a recall everyone and their mother would be swarming the dealerships demanding their transmission be fixed; effected or not.

A TSB should do fine for those effected, if theres an official TSB the dealer should have no problem replicating the issue. I'm sure right now it's just hearsay so they'd rather not deal with it. Once there is an official TSB it should be different.

My brother and father are both techs at dealerships; people come in spouting they have this problem and that problem. 90% of the time they're wrong, they can't just take your word for it or they'd to bankrupt throwing parts at your car.

Actually, the TSB can work to our advantage.

When it hits, do some research about dealers in your area, and find one that has fixed a couple of other people's cars. They will be more likely to "find" the problem and help you get it fixed. There's no rule you have to go to the dealer you bought the car from (thank god, mine's service department was awful). Some dealers like making money on major warranty work, some like making their money on overpriced oil changes. Find the former.

Also, the TSB usually has a stipulation for out of warranty good faith repair. I'm lucky enough to have no major issues and I'd prefer to not have my tranny ripped open if I can avoid it. However, I like the added insurance if my transmission does in fact start to act up.

When this hits, we need to do stickys in the regional sub-forums for dealership experiences with the TSB.

I went to get my oil changed last week, and was talking to the guy who was checking in my car. I asked if teh TSB was out yet, and he actually admited that he had heard of the problem. I was amazed!

He asked if they had it on file, and I said it should be that I complained about it, but when it was test driven by the tech, of course the problem could not be replicated.

At least somebody FINALLY admitted that they knew about it. That's a start. Next time I go there, I'll have the tech I know do the test drive, and will ride along with him.
