Replacement Windshield
I met a rock truck flying down a two lane highway (had to be going at least 80 mph) and when he passed me he threw a rock into my car. It hit my hood (left a good sized dent, about what you would expect from golf-ball sized hail) then it bounced off the hood into the windshield cracking it.
I could get it replaced using the insurance, after paying my comp ded., however, I wanted to look into paying it out of pocket. The local glass shops quoted me about $900 for the window Anyhow, just out of curiosity, I checked out an online parts place, and this is what I found: 2324848 GLASS, FR. WINDSHIELD (GREEN) (ASAHI) $647.66 2319320 GLASS, FR. WINDSHIELD (GREEN) (PPG) $299.21 This is from the parts lookup on majestic honda (the first hit on google) and you can see two parts numbers for a front windshield, with a obvious price difference. So...the question is...what is the difference? I guess I need to know what ASAHI and PPG mean? Any ideas? |

I was lucky enough to fix the dent in my hood myself, as I was able to remove the liner and push the dent back out. I removed over 90% of it without cracking or damaging the paint. Now all I need to do is color sand and buff the touched up spot and the damage will be pretty much gone. I think I may just go with a window repair and look at the broken place for a while, as I really don't want to part with the $600 and I don't want to file an insurance claim for such small break. I know that as soon as I replace the dang windshield, it will get broken again. That is is what happen on my last two vehicles. I guess this is what I get for living within 25 miles of a rock quarry. So far I had been pretty lucky as several rocks have hit my windshield. I think that the extreme angle of the glass deflected those rocks without causing any major damage. |

Your deductible on a Comprehensive claim does not raise your rates, no need to put all that cash out of pocket if you don't need to....thats why you have insurance. I just got mine done today, I know the company well, I've referred alot of business to them, so my cost was half my deductible....$100. He did tell me their cost on the windshield was $450 plus markup and labor probably would had come to around $600 or so.
